Still jerking around with the damage calculator to compare (raw) CB sets.
I'm using Gore 4P as the comparison.
However, 2 Rey 2 Lagi 1 Duna can have Counterstrike 3, which brings up that set's damage to be higher than 4P Gore.
HOWEVER, CB is a guarding weapon with no hyperarmor moves that can purposely trigger Counterstrike, which means you technically don't have good uptime on that (unless you're a shitter that keeps getting hit at which points your DPS is dropping anyway). You need 35% uptime on counterstrike for the Guts set to be better than Gore 4P.
I'm kind of purposely avoiding Latent Power sets because I don't like it but I think any latent power you add to that would end up with higher damage than gore.

at this point in the series? Hunger. It doesn't serve a real purpose, really. Inventory was limited and you either needed to bring your own food, or bring a bbq pit to hunt and make your own. Eating in itself was a long animation that left you vulnerable so you couldn't do it mid-fight, you needed to leave area and then start eating to regain that stamina. some monsters with long animations might l;et you eat a well done steak like los's strip around the world


But now you can eat food while walking, or even running. space isn't an issue thanks to your field pouch, and if you run out, you can go back to your base and fish them out of your inventory. You don;t even have to walk back, you can just fast travel.

gaining max stamina is a different issue that i'm pretty ok with. You spend a resource to increase it, maybe a monster has an effect that weakens it or something, you can opt not to eat to hunt faster and have a smaller bar as a handicap etc. But actual hunger. The stamina cap slowly decreasing over time. It's such a non issue now, especially now that weather doesn't matter that if it was removed, it wouldn't affect game balance.

Alright, after playing around for a long time I've come these conclusions:

1. Gore 4p has the highest pure raw, but only hits 75%~ consistent affinity.
2. Gore 2p Guts 3p has lower pure raw but hits 95%~ consistent affinity.
3. Lagi 2p Gore 2p and Zoh 2p Guts 3p are almost equal, but fairly weaker than the ones up there.
4. Lagi 2p Guts 3p is the weakest EXCEPT it can easily slot in Counterstrike 3. But as I mentioned, CB doesn't have a good way to trigger Counterstrike and it's a guarding weapon which means your uptime on Counterstrike should THEORETICALLY be bad. However, assuming you get hit roughly every 90 minutes, you get around 50% uptime on Counterstrike and THAT makes it roughly the same as Gore 4p.

From this, I conclude that Gore 4p is the best set for Phial spamming. Except Raw CB wants to be doing ED1 and 2, basically never using the phial unloads which is why you don't even use Artillery. For this playstyle, 2 Rey 2 Gore would be slightly better since you have more consistent affinity.

I honestly think they do this because their goal with mainline since third gen is always just to bring in new players while portable is aimed more towards veteran players. FU is mostly recycled stuff, GU is recycled content the game, and even rise brought back old maps and a ton of old monsters. Why isn't portable reinventing the wheel each new gen?
