That area isn't really a test of strength as much as it is crowd control.
I'd say goblin camp can probably be done around level 3 and certainly 4, but it feels a lot less obnoxious at 5 at least for me

I always either disguise my face character as a gith or bring along frog lady, I don't think I've even done the combat there

i don't want to get rid of the barb. barb does more single-target damage than everyone else combined, twice, while being more than twice as tanky as anyone else. basically a superhero character.

second is wizard with spells like fireball and sleep.
weakest link is probably the cleric or the fighter. cleric has Aid and Command and Bless, pretty good asset, but the damage is not good. if it does even 10/turn that's a lot. while the fighter.... can attack (and miss) a lot? i don't even bother running GWM since unless you burn accuracy oil, you're stuck with 25-35% hit chances while barb is smacking even the highest AC at 70%+.

but rogue just does not have the survivability of fighter. i'd rather have a fighter consistently attack twice at 50% than a rogue that keeps getting picked off and killed.
maybe the play could be an archer fighter, maybe AA like anon said,

My chucklach atm is dealing ~20 per toss atm, sometimes the pike bounces and does another 10.
The main thing though is that you get effectively a ranged melee character. The combat arenas are all way more vertical than tabletop and the combination of damage, utility, and the options it opens up are not insignificant.
I've fucked with both tavern brawler and the titanstring bow, and honestly when I take into account what is being thrown as well, I prefer TB.

Nothing, in fact having an escape route or someone able to cast sanctuary is something you always want to have in your back pocket.
You also want to avoid starting combat with your whole party, starting combat with one person (or more ideally, in a surprise round with shovel), because having your companions sneak attack to enter combat and position is almost universally a benefit.
A lot of honor mode combat is checking features and the layout of enemies and arenas.

It's probably one of the most broken things in the game, you can also have shovel under invisibility scout ahead, she can open/close doors, re-casting invis mid combat causes a lot of enemies to chase her in circles, it's great.
I like just being able to freeze time and take up positions before continuing.

I almost always have shart as a light cleric, and she's usually my designated runner.
I always have sanctuary anyhow because it makes the harpy encounter less annoying.

The trick with sanctuary for escape is setting it up when things start feeling spooky, then you can have the character just dash a turn ahead of time and get a lead.

Shovel can re-cast it each turn, doing so while invisible briefly causes you to be visible, and it can cause enemies to prioritize her and use detect hidden presence.
Being able to draw aggro with something that can infinitely spam invisibility is really nice.

With Shovel, you can start every encounter with just shovel, then you surprise the enemies, go back to your party, and set everything up.
Shovel then runs in circles casting invisibility and taking no damage, wasting the enemy npcs' time.

Clerics and wizards can make a very good living just hanging out in cities casting low and mid level spells to solve everyday problems for some gold, and that includes restoration and cure minor wounds and remove curse and the like.
