for example geist purse no longer has an interesting clasp and shape and is now a standard purse. her arm is no longer twisted and ugly which reflected her inner self. her face is just standard beauty instead of the beautiful but intimidating look. they could have also tried going with the powered look from The Binding of Oathkeeper cover art mimicking 50's novel covers. or even the concept art (almost art deco?) she had a super cool design on her arm

they also had beautiful portrait art. they smoothed that out as well. infernus for example

We know he has his portal ability, which is 100% support, and we know he has his baggage train ability which does damage but given that it sends people AWAY from where it starts, in most cases it's going to be used for saving friendlies by pushing enemies back. His ult is a lock down but doesn't leave them vulnerable to teammates so its pretty much a counter ult for actually dangerous ults like other lock downs.

So that leaves a third ability which I don't think we know anything about but it would have to be one hell of a damage ability to make him dangerous by himself.

You say that like there isn't a lot to take in with other mobas. You underestimate how difficult it is for completely new people to try and control a top down moba and of course, dota and even league are insanely complex games with a lot of characters and items and other mechanics. That's not to mention how hard it is to read what's going on in those games without already being aware of everyuthing

Deadlock's "in" is the fact that it's a 3rd person shooter. Anyone can pick up the game and immediately understand how to move around and play the bare minimum of the game. It's much more approachable. The 3D space makes it much more manageable to see and understand what's going on and be able to INTUITIVELY understand what other heroes are doing or can do.

I'd say Deadlocks skill floor is much lower than Dota but it's skill ceiling is much higher just because of the aim element and of course some of the crazy movement tech and jukes you can do.

Any casual/shorter mode will absolutely split the playerbase between the 40 minute moba matches vs. literally anything else that is shorter as long as that mode is not too complicated. It could even just be an ARAM or turbo and it will still heavily divide the playerbase. A lot of people are turned off by long matches and nothing will get them to play them.

It's not likely yeah, but keep in mind valve is withholding a lot of content from the game that is ready but isn't in the actual client right now. Tons of visual reworks, tons of books/stories for the progression thing, as well as probably entire modes like the payload stuff.

The current map is an absolute mess since they went 3 lanes and I imagine they're working on another full map rework to actually consolidate the map so rotations don't take ages. They probably also want a proper jungle system. Until they figure out the map I don't think the game is going fully public. Open beta would probably also need some real progression elements beyond rank

I think you really underestimate how much/how many people do not want to sit through long moba matches (long as in relative to other game types not long compared to other mobas) especially with how deep the game is. If there is something shorter/easier like the payload/escort mode that might come out people will exclusively play that.
