By a whole 0.1%, in a game where the 5* servant rate is 1%. With pity that takes over 900 SQ (which takes nearly a year to accumulate) and is gone the instant you pull the 5* you want, without carrying over to other banners either. Not all the sprites in the first two years were an incohesive mess though, there were still plenty from the main bloc of artists (excluding mx2j) which all looked similar side by side. The fact that we had to rely on the artbooks to find out who drew what was telling, that's how seamlessly these old sprites matched each other.
They definitely could've kept some level of color and shading just fine, the other weird sprites were just outliers, instead they decided to just massively distance themselves from the old artstyle entirely to make everything look all washed out.

I think most are just asking for the new art to have some of that detailed coloring the old art had, not to bridge some sort of impossible gap with the old and the new.
They can have a unified aesthetic using only a few in-house artists while also keeping things more visually interesting with more detailed shading. The new wild hunt girls look like their hair just got bucket-filled (except Tsumugi for whatever reason), it's tragic because I otherwise think their designs are quite good

It is a point perhaps, schools don't just present a country at times but also a country during a moment in time. They aren't all modern day allegories. Highlander is America during the early age when it was still establishing itself, back when railways were a big thing. Gehenna is vaguely WW2 era when there were war blimps. Millenium is futuristic modern. Trinity and Wildhunt seem to be golden age of Europe, maybe early 1900's.

The terror is treated as a bad thing for a reason, regressing into your old identity is bad, you should move on and become a new person. They are growing and changing into new people already. Characters being inspired by anthropology isn't anything new; I just didn't read it literally, where, for example, Mika is literally Archangel Michael. Also, a lot of explanations about which student is what "mystic" aren't very good. First of all, they are all incredibly tortured. There’s no way the characters were arduously written out of their mystics. Secondly, even the safest bets aren't very good, in my opinion. Some examples:

I know that this is a pseudo-harem gacha game, but I don't think the writers believe the players would be narcissistic enough to be satisfied by something like this.
