So, I decided to make another save to get the Shadow Mantle. First of all, whoever designed the layout for that godawful boss should probably have their foreskin dangled in front of them. Susie always reveals what responses seem "forced" or unnatural. Just wanted to say that you were right on the money. Thankfully I pre-emptively took the ibuprofen before I went to work so I wasn't in any real major pain, but I could still feel the part of my brain that would be in pain had I not done that. What makes a Toby plot unexpected isn’t from him making random plot twists.
It’s simply execution.
Michael has a proper presence in the story in that you see who he used to be (Pizzapants) and what he will become (FRIEND) at the same time.

Toby’s biggest tool is doubt. Because regardless of where Pizzarina’s cookies actually are originally from (the Everyman wearing the ICE-E mask), the knowledge on how Gaster was shattered throughout time and space (dark worlds, which Eram and Friend are tied to and invade), and the Mikes exposing the strange nature of Mike himself.

They all think it’s some gag of Pizzapants getting catfished. They all think Michael is supposed to be a gag fake character and to never think about him again. And they think all of the descriptions of ICE-E being Hell itself is simply a gag.
And that’s when it’s the perfect time to absolutely demolish them with the big reveal that Pizzapants was FRIEND all along. And eveything he said was real. And that… he is the main reason why Asriel ends up as a wreck and Dess became the roaring knight. That he is the devil himself.
