Expand slow unless you're playing as a looting faction, make sure that whatever territory you take you will be able to hold onto. The ai will outrecruit you, it's inavoidable. When you expand you want to hit their outposts and try to bait their armies into attacking you if it seems like too much. As much as I thought I knew about the Iliad I was surprised realizing Patroclus is the older partner. I always figured him as the twink since in 2004, in Warriors legends of troy he's the twink and in Age of Bronze I think he's fairly co-twink.
