Warrior S3: Fire skills buffed (e.g., Volcanic Fissure, new Forge Hammer). Totems now scale with player weapons, and defensive tools like Shield Charge and new buffs provide more survivability and smoother gameplay.

Ranger & Dex Classes: Ice/cold builds got huge boosts (Escape Shot, Freezing Salvo, Ice-Tipped Arrows). Skill use is smoother, and a new “Deflect” mechanic makes evasion more reliable. Block/parry work against nearly all attacks.

Support Gems Revamp: You can use several copies of the same support gem for deeper builds, and new “Lineage Supports” are powerful endgame-only gems. Progression for support gems now unlocks extra effects at high levels.

Sprint Mechanic: Hold dodge roll to sprint endlessly. You move much faster, but getting hit while sprinting knocks you down. Makes exploration and escape more dynamic.

Interludes: Three new mini-Acts bridge campaign and endgame, offering 35 new zones, 24 bosses, and richer progression. These acts will eventually be replaced but content will remain in endgame.

Act 4: Explore eight new islands in any order with 100+ monster types and 16 zones; non-linear and focused on player-driven exploration.

Events: Free weekend (Aug 29–Sep 1) with full access. “Dawn of the Hunt” league ends Aug 27; new update “The Third Edict” launches Aug 29, with a reveal live stream slated for Aug 21.

I never said I agree with the changes. It is just objectively true this patch changes more than Last Epoch's which is a nothing patch, essentially. They're slowly reworking some of the oldest and shittiest classes and not adding any new end game content.
This one changes a lot of what made PoE2, well, PoE2. It is yet to be seen if these changes are good or bad.

My only worry is that some of the changes will be bad but the casual dad gamers with 14 wife's sons and 14 wife's boyfriends will cheer and they won't be able to revert them.
Being able to use as many copies of the same support gem as you want is REALLY weird. This can't be something they thought about even when 0.2 released because they added in a bunch of random supports so you could more easily support all your skills. Now 95% of supports will go unused.

speaking from a dev perspective, it does truly seem like Jonathan is lost. Why is he focusing on fine tuning the existing systems in the beta instead of just vomiting all the content they have and then fine tuning it after ALL OF IT is in? A lot of the systems in Path of Exile basically only work through the sheer amount of the quantity of stuff (build diversity, general power level, progression, etc.)

For example, sprinting might look and feel weird as fuck with druid forms.

After 1 month PoE1 had more players than PoE2, despite PoE2 having a higher high. That is to say, more people quit playing PoE2 than they do PoE1. If the retention for PoE2 is higher this time then yeah, that'll be good. I literally did the math before and it can be summarized as:

they're adding an inherent chance to get DR to Evasion that will be more likely to proc the more evasion you have. so hybrid ES/EV builds lose out on getting as much because they are getting ES. if they get it right it should work.

Evasion in poe1 already rolls a second time if a monster crits, and you avoid the crit damage if its a success. its like that.

No, it is bad design. The reason? Slowly, over time, all game balance gets warped around it. If you do not take spell suppression into account, everything is too easy. So you have to buff spell numbers to compensate so then having 100% spell suppress is now the norm.
Spell Suppression was one of the worst things added to PoE1, and I say that as a guy who forces it onto basically every build.

You do need it if you want to do hard content. Spell suppression is probably the worst thing they've ever added to the game. It's an asymmetrical buff to the right side of the tree. All this talk about making res more accessible on left is complete horseshit, you cant reach 90 res with the tree and a couple affixes on your gear. That'd be equivalent. The reality is getting 90 all res requires an aura or melding or a specific unique or flasks. Some of this stuff is also available to the right side as well, meaning the exclusionary nature of suppression doesn't have a left sided foil. Res is harder to gear, not exclusionary, and not toed to the same gear affixes. It has completely warped the game in a bad way and is one of the major reasons the end game is such a shit show balance wise. The fact that we are now in 0.3 and they are going down this same retarded train of thought is a massive red flag. GGG are literally braindead at this point. How is the campaign progression when you can beat it literally naked? There's no progression, it's a time sink, it's an inevitability, you don't even need to change your weapon from level 1 if you're using several skills because it doesn't matter. The only actual progression and increase in difficulty comes in once you get to maps and start dealing with higher level enemies, map modifiers, atlas nodes, etc.

killing doryani in act 3 then speed running the entire thing over again to kill him a second time on cruel is not progression. You can't even level your gems in the campaign in poe2, skill and support gem drops are tied to area level and have no experience anymore, with the ACTUAL progression to lvl 20 skill gems happening only in maps. 99% of the gem drops you get in the campaign are useless as a result and you'll be overflowing with them in maps.

The point about Inquisitor Martyr endgame is that it is structured almost like a campaign in itself. I can playa game for 1000's of hours but I need some kind of structure more so than what poe has anyway.

A lesson to be learned from that game though is that determinsitic crafting is bad. You could reroll every mod on an item to be whatever you wanted it to be, and from that point on, nothing that dropped mattered except as a crafting resource to try reroll perfect stats.

iirc they used to use a method similar to how poe1 assigns map drops to a specific mob when it generates the map. the problem is that people could run past it or leave it on a few hp and then they were fucked. it was especially easy because Utzaal (and the Lost City and to a lesser extent the Mastodon badlands) are large non linear areas.
so what they've probably just done is left that in place but, if you didn't find it, had the next map just drop the item deterministically after a certain number of monsters. I plan to gung-ho it on launch day, watch me sprint.

problem is, armor is on the polar opposite side of the tree from Evasion and now Spell Suppression (that also suppresses attacks lol), and the armor formula is unchanged so it'll still suck cock against the hits that matter.
the poo in loo 2 armor formula is Armor/Armor+12x Damage, so with 20k armor you only reduce a 10k slam by 14%. meanwhile Block negates 75% of all hits straight up and Deflection will now be 40% (able to boost to 50% on tree) up to 100% of the time. So you still will want to get 10k ES or like 6k ES+Evasion and have Block/Deflection rather than bother with Armor
