You can equip the glyphs to the collection boxes in your homestead, this way you can harvest all resources in a single move while also getting the effect of that glyph.
Anyway, I think volatile, bounty (33% chance of getting extra stuff), leatherworker (same but leather materials) and herbalist (same but herbs) should all be good investments: the first two for obvious reasons, leather is always more profitable than metal and fabric, and herbs should be used for crafting the legy backpack in JW slightly faster.

There's a time and place for it. I do w1-8 speed clears with my weekly group same with fractals every other day + sells when needed. This games "hard content" is meant to be beat in your own style. There's very few pieces of content that have to have specifically high dps numbers and require certain classes. Even then some mechanics are just lost to time and circumvented now. Seething at someone who wants to play their way because it's X dps loss and you lose Y buffs for the group and don't apply Z breakbar and conditions, is absolutely embarrassing. Use the hammer if you prefer. I think berserker gear with scholar runes is a little less optimal than what snowcrows uses with the berserker/dragon mix with dragonhunter runes. Other than that the traits are the same and just comes down to the utilities.

Not really, very similar in dmg to hammer/gs, but has way more utility. Barrier, stability, heal, condi cleanse. For solo it's excellent, not as useful in group content where other people do support stuff for you.
Other anon is right, pretty much every weapon can be swapped with what you need on ranger, something/axe is your main burst though.
