I recently played a Repanse campaign and tried to use a melee peasant build for her army. It was pretty fun tbhwy. Especially when combined with building armouries everywhere to increase the peasants' armour as much as possible.

- Stegadons are all different variants of infantry blenders. One has weak-ish bolt thrower for middling ranged damage and other Giant Blowpipes ie skink machine gunner on top for even more short-range infantry blending.
- Carnosaurs are your bred and butter anti-large. Notice that Saurus Scar Veterans get them as mounts too.
- Normal Bastiladons are chaff version of SEMs (cheaper than even Saurus Warriors!) so they wont kill much but will hold forever as long as enemy doesnt have AP. Upgraded versions have all sort of support tools like Solar Engines (direct-fire artillery against infantry, alright at what it does) and Revivification Crystals (free heals, pretty good)
- Ancient Salamander has been multiplayered and is worthless

It does well against anything, although it's better if you have some anti-large on the flanks and maybe some anti-infantry behind the leadbelchers if your roadblock heroes get overwhelmed, for artillery you could just have a couple firebellies spamming piercing bolts of burning on them, you kill a luminark of hysh in two normal casts, or some sabretusk or anti-large mournfag cavalry on your flanks serving both as anti-large interceptors against enemy cavalry and for rushing enemy artillery.
What I had in that picture is an extremely early game stack, leadbelchers are a tier 2 unit and you can get them outside Ogre Camps in normal settlements.

Provinces with high corruption generate better recruitment options. Start your army a few turns earlier than you normally would at one of your core provinces, walk it over while recruiting decent stuff and a couple maraudermanii to upgrade later.

You upgrade what you get. You are often able to easily get Aspirings too. And other big shit can help depending on region (DOgres, Giants, Trolls etc are all solid). I never recruit warriors or knights for example (barring the very rare time they happen to be somewhere I'm attacking), I upgrade marauders into most things. Be mindful of technology and gifts, too (a lot of +XP). WoC have no supply lines so you ought to be having a bunch of armies around (even if it's shitstack marauadermanii everywhere slowly upgrading to warriors, and collecting good shit around that's insta-recruit).

Unfortunately for WoC you end up spending a ton of time in the Chaos Wastes and Norsca because that's where most of the Dark Fortresses are. If you don't have explicit victory conditions to do something else there's no "reason" to expand beyond that and Norsca unless you feel like it.
As for Exalted Heros, you might as well. They're good on their own and extra XP is always welcome. It's not particularly strong but it doesn't hurt. Specifically for a maraudermanii stack I don't see any reason not to use one.

I've done eshin, they have BOTH issues.
I've done weapons teams.
Vermintide is not fun to me, it just requires 3 turns of rerecruiting stormvermin after you lose 90% of your army every battle.
And Moulder... Has shit conditions, take all of Norsca, or take Kislev, the empire, and Azhag/Ungrim.

And as for what VCO is, Victory Conditions Overhaul, gives actually enjoyable campaigns that have thematic victories, rather than just "Take/Raze 50 settlements"

The infantry is fine. It's so cheap it should really be considered good. Eshin makes it easier, not harder, because instead of dealing with gunpowder LOS you get AP arc-fire ranged which is a lot easier to use optimally
Sure it's harder to have to micro your routed infantry back, but you can get 2 stacks for every 1 other factions get, and they're not much worse.
