some stuff scales off spirit, mainly abilities but some items and even inherent stats in some heroes (for example, seven's move speed scales up from his spirit stat)
you can check how stuff scales by holding alt while hovering over their tooltip (you know something scales with spirit if it has a purple star with an arrow going up)

Weapon damage = damage done by your gun, in rare instances there will be abilities that deal weapon damage
melee damage = melee attacks OR abilities that count as melee attacks (i.e. bebops uppercut)
Spirit damage = Everything else, almost all abilities deal spirit damage including items that deal damage

It should be noted (since I actually forgot about this since coming back) that every item in the shop adds weapon, spirit, or health. It doesn't state so on the item but if you buy a purple item, even if the item just says it gives you want affect and no stat bonuses, it STILL contributes to adding spirit power.

everything else in the shop is "this thing buffs [offensive stat] while providing [resistance stat reduction] while also giving you a blow job if you walljump, +50 health"

if they're building resistance, build anti resistance for your current stat, or flex into other other stat if you can if you think it will cost more for them to adapt than it will be for yourself
everything else is special effect chaining and secondary stats that help with the primary offensive stat (gun speed/spell amp = gun/spirit damage but faster)

also, learn what stats your hero scales spirit off of
example: every point of spirit gives vindicta 0.14 fire rate, while vyper gets 0.023 movement speed

It's not like an RPG where you just simply gain more of a stat, the most powerful stat boosts are conditional and you have to consider if it works with your character or build. You need to consider diminishing returns as well, as the more of a stat you stack the less of an effect it gives.

I.e. if you deal 100 weapon damage and get a +50% weapon damage boost, that's well, 50% more damage. But now after that, if you then get an additional +50% boost. You aren't dealing 50% more damage, you're actually dealing 33% more damage from what you already had. This gets more complicated when it comes to resistances and lifesteal which don't stack in a straight forward way either

Is Bashdown not just a better Lash strikedown what the fuck? Has charges, knocks up and scales with melee with no investment into it. Lash needs level 2 to get the knock up and level 3 to get half decent scaling. Bashdown's scaling is also generally better into lategame. This game has not even released yet and new heroes are already outshining the old ones in how packed their kit is. So far it's like they skipped all the years it took Overwatch 2 to add movement creep to every new hero and also remix old abilities.
I wonder if they will update the old heroes at this point.

I know Im a casual and need to "gitgud" but man I'd be all over this game if the gameplay wasnt such a farm fest and required you to learn some wave-dash tier engine exploits just to keep up movement-wise once you reach a certain skill level within the playerbase.
If the farming was toned down the way Paragon was, I wouldnt mind it as much, but I get that it would probably take away from the build depth.

Having played a bit of both Mina and Billy, I feel like Mina will absolutely dominate the game in most skill levels, while Billy will be a more offensive Abrams which means a stray parry will insta delete him if it lands.

what kind of issues are you having with the movement? it's incredible easy to pick up after enough playtime in my experience, just slide after everything and walljumping is very intuitive since the last change. Compared to other shooters I've played with more complex movement systems (Apex) the amount of time I've put into just practicing movement in sandbox is basically zero. There was that corner boosting mechanic that I tried to get down for a bit but afaik it's been removed from the game, same with most of the more obscure zipline tech.
