As fun as it was to do a solo unfair run, the buff stacking needs to stop.
Officers were never the problem. They help make it easier to clear the map in 1 turn but they were never a requirement.

I highly doubt the dev team wanted to give the final boss 20k hp while the players still have 100hp. That was definitely the result of a broken system.

BG1 is low level D&D. There's a lot more squaring up and letting the dice decide. You can basically clear everything just by stacking high hit chance and low AC.
BG2 is high level D&D. Each encounter is going to be a puzzle that you have to use different tools to attack. A thorough knowledge of the spells and mechanics is essential. If you try to just run in and swing you'll end up disintegrated.

Most of the campaign is low level localized stakes making for a different narrative focus and interactions.

Been a while so I forgot the combo but basically you get Frightened from Thug and then add Cornugon Smash (and Dreadful Carnage)

Yep, played it in KM and on WOTR. Then you add that feat that lets you have infinite AOOs and you'll just be chasing enemies. This generally sucks until you get Haste as you can't run after them. This also will show you a funny bug where frightened enemies ignore geometry and will run outside the map.

I dislike that it's a fact, but that won't change it: The audience is full of people, a lot of them lonely who want to experience romantic fantasies of attractive companions/npcs with their self-inserts. Let's be real, if a third of Rogue Trader was a dating sim, it would have sold more, not less. Only some diehard 40k fans would complain. Fanservice sells and it is well recieved. On a lot of the forums people spam about romance, even steam still has "Is Argenta romancable yet" threads/mentions in other threads. And most talk of older RPGs is discussing waifus.

That being said, yes. that is the ending that retains the cult but doesn't have them take over.

It's superior but very difficult to implement.
A typical relatively open design looks something like this (puzzle dependency for point-and-click adventure).
It works because you can design parts of the game, using the chokepoints to ensure a player has everything you need them to before going to the next area/plot point. It also works particularly well in that genre since sometimes you want to come back to a puzzle after doing something else and letting your brain wander.
The downside to what you want is that it's really hard to ensure the game still functions, and the entire thing has to be designed either simultaneously (which is just really hard) or independently, so that things don't really interact with one another. Having a big world that doesn't interact is kind of lame but very common in the games that do that. Doing everything at once restricts scope significantly but can result in some great, tight experiences.

Baldur's Gate 3 and nothing else comes close. I'd recommend some kind of martial character for your first playthrough. You can die really fast in bg1 so that extra health is really important. Also if the main character dies its game over so playing something like a mage who has like 5 hp at level one can be very frustrating if you don't know what you're doing.
I like playing fighter multiclasses since you get the bulk of a melee character while still getting fun abilities/spells

if you want an easy ride from the start to the very end, an elf archer (ranger kit) is going to kill most things very easy

Geralt didn't give a fuck about bringing Foltest's murderer to justice, only about clearing his name, and saving Triss took precedence over that, so Geralt would very probably go with Iorveth. It's also just the cooler path overall.
On the other hand, abandoning Roche feels kinda bad. But again, it's not like Geralt cares for kingdom politics, and later you can just tell him you had to pursue the best lead you had during a split second decision and he'll accept it and help you again.
