This is what bugs me about it. It was written so horribly when he was built up with Liadrin for years. Blood of the Highborne was so good. This would actually be the correct course of action because it would then bolster Lor'themar's hate and thirst for vengeance.


Here is how I would've written it and it would be 1000x better.

Following the cinematic, Lorthemar and Thalyssra are at some point fighting alongside eachother in that raid thats about defending Silvermoon City. Thalyssra then gets killed by the orders of Xalatath.

What they then do is give Lorthemar the motivation to
1. Open up his city to the alliance to allow it to be a staging area, focused on revenge.
2. He has his own character arc where he is focused on seeking revenge for the death of his lover.

You then later in Midnight have a raid where you can either have him succeed in killing Xalatath, if she is only living til the end of the expansion OR you have him fail, and he fails knowing he was never successful in his revenge plot.

If he dies, you then have a story beat where in The Last Titan you have a Return of the Jedi moment where in some way they Lorthemar and Thalyssra have a heart to heart over his inability to defeat Xalatath, asking for forgiveness from Thalyssra, but she accepts him and they embrace in the afterlife.

LITERALLY JUST DO THAT

Thalyssra will remain useless or will more likely just be an accessory to whoever the main character is at the time, Jaina or Anduin.
