They won't attack you normally but will frenzy onto anything that takes damage near them. So if you hit a zombie in water then the shark will go fuck them up for you but if you get dinked by a drowned spear chucker in shark infested waters then you will eat shit and die.

The starter bed only allows you to set your spawn. Later down the line you'll get something to make a nicer bed that allows you to skip nights (maybe even only a few nights).
And add more events, stuff like "Zombie Horde" where a ton of zombies spawn going towards you, breaking your doors etc.

There shouldn't be so many barely-different grey blocks (stone, andesite, various dead corals, etc.), it's very pointlessly samey and all people do with them is make their stone walls and pathways look sloppy. And gravel should go back to that pinkish-purplish look it had in beta.

I was messing around in a creative world to test some things out when I found this near the spawn, it's a stronghold that cuts into an ancient city which has a trial chamber cutting into that. I didn't even know this was possible

Do spawn-chunks still function as they did before; in that they are always loaded and so you can make farms continue functioning despite being a bajillion blocks away? I remember reading an update or snapshot feature that removed that.

I'm trying to turn my villager into a librarian but it's not taking for some reason.

I have a fenced front garden for my big wizard tower and I put pigs in there as a Circe reference and because they were wandering around outside, and a few other animals like a light gray sheep and a chicken for variety. I will probably put one of each dye only color sheep in there too eventually, other than that it's just the dark oaks that were growing inside or on the fence border. I want to light it up at night so mobs don't spawn inside the fence, and make it look sort of wild but sort of curated.
I'm surprised torchflowers don't glow but it's another long and annoying thing I don't have to do to get them I guess.
I was thinking of brown mushrooms because they're magical and firefly bushes because they're understated and I have multiple patches in this biome anyways. I guess I have to look up what silk touch tool I need to gather them, never seen them before this world. I also want to put some glow lichen on the trees once I figure out how to pick that up, I know there are a few pieces of it in the giant cave system I've mostly explored, just need to go back and find them sometime. And I'm on the fence about hanging a few glow lichens from the dark oak branch overhangs, I do want something brighter but not sure if it will fit well. I thought about mycelium or podzol or even warped blocks, but I think the dark forest terrain already looks good as the dirt both inside and outside of the fence.
Sculk will probably be better for a special floor of the tower, maybe one of the basements.
I want to save candles for inside too, but maybe one jack-o-lantern in the corner somewhere, and soul lanterns hung by the door to the tower. I wish there were a shroomlight variant that's just a small glowing mushroom but I don't think I want the full block version or to place a giant fungi in the garden, it's too small.
I guess dim light is fine because apparently now mobs don't spawn above light level 0

I missed the community discussion on it so I wanted to ask:
How did the general community react to happy ghasts? Was it literally all positive?

From a distance it felt like the design and the mechanics were fundamentally at odds with the general "feel" of minecraft. Plus in general they just look ugly. To some extent I felt the same way regarding elytra and shulkers when they released but at least they were endgame and the game has otherwise moved/centralised towards integrating them into how people play

When making 'free-range' villagers, you have to make concessions as their AI is easily fucked. This *was* my archery range for my fletcher, but it was in the central pathing for their beds, so some villagers would get stuck and not sleep in their beds at night (and with free-range villagers, you want to make sure that they're always able to make it to a bed to heal from any damage they take from being idiots during the day). I've used barrels as storage, but that still can break villager AI sometimes (especially in my old bedrock world).
Last, carpets (of any kind) over berry bushes can create an off-limits zone, so villagers (and hostile mobs) won't walk over it. But, they can be pushed or otherwise make it past these barriers with enough effort/chance.

What version of minecraft has the best worldgen lads, I heard that they ruined it recently. Any mods to revert it?

anyone know the mechanics of where animals try to move? i have this enclosure with dirt walls at least 2 high but they keep jumping in the corner trying to get out, what makes them decide to do that?

For me it's more about comfort, I'm just used to Etho after so many years. He hasn't changed much at all, his content is very nostalgic but at the same time refreshing because it's something you're unfamiliar with (such as new content) given to you in a familiar way. Got overambitious and kinda fell apart as a result. Finally finished flattening the top island and turned it into a giant bamboo forest. I moved all my animals from my farms on the left island and let them be free on the right one; I built a lake for my axolotls in the middle, I might add more stuff in the future but for now it is mostly finished, I need to illuminate the place and it will be safe to explore at night. I also built two more structures, the purple one is a home for my striders, and the white one at the bottom is a giant store room for dirt, grass, and cobblestone. I obtained many of these items from the flattening of the top right island, which necessitated its construction.

Kind of surprised I'm still playing right now. Would have expected to take a break by now. Put up three builds in my village, starting to do detailing/minute problem solving.
For example, I finally set up a base for myself (I've appropriated builds that I made for villagers). My input for my furnace is at ground level, so it'd make the most sense to get set up a lava farm nearby. Except it looked ugly when I built it. Decided, I'm just going to use charcoal, so I finished off the interior for that floor.
I have a herbalist guild to make and a woodcutter/wood burner build to make as well for major projects.
But again, small details.

being able to leash boats in java makes transporting villagers so much easier it feels unreal. i've just took 12 villagers all at once across an ocean and effortlessly pulled them up onto the shore and dragged them across the land to my base, a lead snapped once because one of the boats got caught on a small oak tree but i think i saved so much time and effort doing it any other way

Can anyone help me understand why this iron farm spawned a few golems and then nothing since? The dimensions and distance of every villager chamber are exactly the same and equally apart from one another as well as the spawn chamber for the golems. There's nowhere for other golems to spawn, the villagers are able to sleep as seen in my image and they rested for days before I got the zombies in there. The boat placements are all in the exact same spot in the exact location the guide I used said to place them, I just don't get why nothing spawns when a few did at first

Do any of you have any knowledge on how to delete biomes from existing on new worlds? I want to create a desert and mesa only (wooded badlands removed of course) world map but I can't find anything online that helps, just people saying to use NBTexplorer without actually telling you how to delete or restrict biomes from being created. I want to add lush caves, dripstone caves and deep dark biomes too so that caving isn't just all stone and deepslate and so ancient cities spawn

Worked just the way I had hoped but I may need to remove lush caves, not much of a challenge when trees are readily available like this. Gonna remove villages and pillager outposts too but this is a good start, I could do with being more serious about the biome replacements too. I just randomly put any of the 3 biomes I want for the overworld to replace anything, I think the more flatter biomes should be replaced by desert and the more mountainous ones replaced by eroded badlands. Biomes that are heavily wooded like forests, taiga, darkoak, cherry grove, etc can be replaced by regular badlands
I just wish this much water didn't spawn in, maybe lower the sea height level to -64 that's work

Over reaction, for some reason passive farm animals aren't spawning and I'm not complaining. Just saw it in the change log doe badlands biomes recently but it's not applying to my world, probably some biome generation fuckery which is a good thing. Armadillos still spawn but you can't eat those so that's fine. Forgot to remove lush caves and pillager outposts but a part of me wants to keep pillager towers around, I removed villages so I'll have to make my own. All oceans and rivers are replaced with deserts, there should be no water in the overworld

I think they've kind of screwed themselves already by making it likely tied to Sculk; the Nether is a bunch of dim hell-caves, the End is dark to match the Endermen, and even Overworld caves are basically their own (dark) world now. A Sculk dimension would have to have a really memorable terrain shape or some other super distinct feature to stand out, since it'd be just another collection of dark spaces otherwise. Maybe it could be glowing green and be XP themed? Maybe it could be one continuous dimension-wide winding river of liquid levels? I don't know, I just hope it stands out more than I expect it will.

If mojank adds a new dimension it should be a super dangerous place to be in. So dangerous that even fully enchanted netherite won't make you feel safe. As a tradeoff, the new dimension, that may or may not be a sculk one, can be used to "fast travel" even more than the Nether.

If one block travelled in the Nether means 8 blocks in the Overworld, this new dimension could have one block travelled equal 80 blocks in the Overworld, maybe even 100.

There's no grass in the badlands biome, only wooded badlands. Passive mobs spawn in badlands biomes without grass. Speaking of grass I did want it in my world but it doesn't spawn naturally in any of the biomes I have active... EXCEPT a fucking ancient city of all things. I need to find the deep dark and hope it has an ancient city if I want that greenish-brown horrid grass for the overworld. I completely forgot they have a room under the "portal" that has a bunch of grass blocks inside it for the redstone tutorials.
