Trust me it's not positivity. I've been around mod communities for long enough to know what happens when something with insanely high demand gets abandoned or C&D'd. Huge mods, romhacks (particularly pokemon), all get picked up by different teams and kept alive.
If I remember correctly, Mare had a userbase of tens of thousands daily. That's more than a lot of games on their own.
