It explains some of the missions they played and said it was around the game's 15 hour mark.

Basic gist is that if I enter the Pit, I'm locked into the usual dialogue where Argenta and Ulfar corner him. But I only get one dialogue option before it closes and autocompletes the quest without Marzipan actually being present. And then the option to leave just isn't there.

NuTW and nuHitman might have spoiled me, but it honestly feels kinda wasteful to not import your previous game to a "sequel" while updating it. Would be nice if RT and DH were both playable on this one newer base and RT got access to improved mechanics like this VATS and this gradually destructible cover from polygon article and other new additions.
Then make game fully moddable so modders can create their own campaigns using assets from both and it would be insane.

It depends on what module you're playing but most of them you can play completely solo.
In a lot of campaigns you get 1-2 companion at most.
Also you can carry over characters to different modules so if you want that whole solo adventurer going from place to place solving problems vibe you can easily do that.

Source point needing to be constantly refreshed to play your cool spells was annoying. With mods it's a cool game but like most brand new combat systems the magic is not very unique or interesting. The environmental damage was an interesting gimmick but ultimately gets boring fast.

It's not so much whether they like or dislike me, but more that they don't really acknowledge what they're saying. Like Irabeth or Seele (sp) or whoever says to me, a Hellknight, that Hellknights are almost as bad as demons and we're better off leaving them to die. It makes me think "ok, but under a Paladin you've made no progress in 100 years, under a hellknight you conquered half Sarkorias in 5 weeks." Well, that's the one thing I will applaud bg3 for. As mid as he game ended up being at least ti acknoledges your class plenty fo times. Even if that doesn't change anything majour it's still nice flavour. Owltards seem to be taking this lesson to heart, because they've been adding more class and background reactivity to rt. Still not nearly enough, but they're moving in the right direction at least, albeit at a snail's pace

I'm trying to get into Baldur's Gate 1, and I just wanted to get some general questions answered that I can't find online for some reason.
This is more about what's most fun, or fits with the vibe of a roleplaying game, not so much about being optimal.

Are there some quests where the intended way to finish them is to just wait more than a few chapters until you're leveled up high enough? When my dinky little sorcerer gets one-tapped, I can't really tell whether I wasn't supposed to go there yet, or if I just needed to roll better. Am I going to get a quest intended for level 12s in Chapter 2 so that I have to remember to come back at a later time?

How do you normally handle companions, especially the ones with quests? I got Imoen (whom I will savescum as much as I need to so that she survives to the end, god-dammit!), the two travelers on the way to the second location, and the two friends of Gorion at that other location. Then I was met with quest after quest that all needed other companions. I can't tell if it does the old RPG thing of "well, you said no to the quest, why should I let you try again" so now I'm worried that talking to people will lock me out of content. One time I tried dismissing a companion, and he got all pissy at me "After all we've been through"

Last one make her some support class and submissive like Cassia, maybe if the admech is female have her be the utility of the team. Give her an interesting twist to the romance if she is admech. If the admech if male, then maybe an officer/operative type character.

mage/fighter is the class you'll want if you want to slap people around with a weapon and primarily use arcane spells. a pure mage or sorc will have pitiful thaco and most unique quaterstaffs are geared towards giving mages some sort of casting bonus as opposed to slapping people with it, with the exception being jaheria who can use a quaterstaff +1 quite well early in bg1 due to her being a druid/fighter and having her proficiency in it. Sorcerer is also different from mage in that it selects fewer spells but has more casts of them, your trading the flexibility of a editable spellbook for the ability to always have the ability cast a specific spell for however many spellslots they have, and they tend to have more spellslots than a mage of the same level

It's been a long time so I won't answer all of the questions in the first part. IIRC, BG1 has a pretty organic progression, though it does reward thorough exploration. Your early level mages are going to suck and die in 1-2 hits. Use your sling, your Sleep, your Grease, your Web, whatever small advantages you can get. You don't have cantrips and you're squishy as hell. Grab the companions that seem fun. Those you don't recruit won't magically level so these are choices you commit to for better or worse.

This last part is pretty funny. BG1&2 are old games based on AD&D 2E. It is technically possible to achieve what you're describing, but because of the way dual-classing works there - you first need to level your (martial) class to X, and only then can you switch to your (caster) class - I would definitely not recommend it to a first-time player who's just trying to have a fun experience instead of following a spreadsheet of when exactly to switch classes for the optimal gish. Dual-classing will also gimp your early game experience, forcing you to play a Thief or a Fighter when you really want to be a Mage. This isn't like BG3 where you can pick whatever class you want every level and where respec is unlimited. Also you have to be human for dual-classing. Old games, old edition, old rules. It CAN be done but keep that in mind and google a bit if you really want a hybrid character (human). There's also multi-classing for non-humans. This comes with pros and cons compared to dual-classing, depending on your archetype - again google is your friend here. It's less restrictive (because you're not forced to be human or spend BG1 being a Thief) but also progresses slower. Character limit forces me to cut this short, but it's something to plan now if you want to go all the way to ToB with its epic levels. My recommendation: Martial or Fighter/Mage (multiclass). Oh, and google race restrictions if you want romance Viconia.

mage/figher multis get less spellslots compared to a pure mage, I'd reccomend using those slots mostly for self buffs like shield, mirror image and later on stoneskin, but you can find items that give more lower level spell slots and bg1 has some pretty strong low level status spells you can use pretty effectively so you can scribe a use or two if you want. essentially a mage/fighter will have a tighter number of spellslots than a specialist mage but you can totally still use an offesnive spell or two along with your buffs

I wouldn't recommend anyone to even look at gishes in BG1 and 2. Go with simpler concepts, its going to be way more fun and ultimately more effective.

Welp, I'm looking more into Fighter/Mage, and it looks like it really only works as a Fighter with occasional magic, instead of the other way around, as a mage that can sometimes use a sword. Plus, they can't cast spells while wearing armor, which really puts a damper on the whole idea.

I think I should stop overthinking it and try just playing the game again. I'll just go pure mage, and hit things with a stick. It does 1d6 damage, while a longsword does 1d8. Not too big of a difference. Or I could use a dagger with a 1d4 damage, and half the speed factor.

dont know if its its the same, but there was a homebrew kind of option for D&D 3rd ed that was like that, you could level up to 6 and then just obtained feats instead of leveling. Meant to reign in the power levels, so you were still stronger than the average dude (A level 6 fighter could slay a pack of wolves with a simple sword! A level 6 wizard could incinerate a dozen men with a few words and a gesture!) but not warping reality, which in turn meant you didnt have casters breaking the game

Just finished fallout sonora.
It was a great experience, definitely the best classic fallout mod out of the ones I've played and genuinely feels like it could be an official game. Its way more polished than the devs previous mod nevada.
All the different factions are great and I liked that there were no cartoonishly evil groups for the most part. There's definitely groups you could call the bad guys but everyone has understandable motivations that feel believable for the fallout setting.
Gameplay felt really well balanced, all the weapon types got good upgrades throughout the game and all skills seemed well supported too. I tagged repair and doctor and they were super useful throughout the whole game.

I highly recommend it for anyone who has already beat fallout 1 and 2.

RPG fans who are mostly male want to see beautiful women that they can possibly romance in party based rpg games. RT's cover and roster were well recieved at reveal because of Yrliet, Cassia and Argenta. Threads on all sites were filled with comments about people hoping they were romancable.
People simply like beauty and beautiful women. The lack girl on the cover is plain and the Kroot maybe an exotic xeno wife option for some, it's not universal like a hot elf. By not putting their best on the cover in terms of beauty they are shooting themselves in the foot. Of ckurse writting matters, Yrliet's romance was terrible and humiliating, but at glance when it came to presentation, she was a big plus, many 40K fans love the idea of an Eldar waifu. Maybe the characters on the cover are great, but that's not what sells the game to the new rpg fan arrival. The thing that objectively catches their gaze will be hot women they can win over in the game. Look at so many older games having hot women on the cover. Even spellforce which had no romance, but was a rpg rts hybrid had hot women on the cover. That sells. In a RPG that does have romance you better have good things to offer. The marketing around it did wonders for BG3, their last panels from hell leaned hevaily into character customization and romance and that gave the game a even bigger boost after that panel. If Owlcat is smart they will do a romance preview showcase/blog/trailer that showcases the hottest women on offer.

I brought my ranger armor which is 10 pounds, a pistol and a couple of other things I cant remember. Bullets and medicine dont weigh anything so its really not so bad.
The only annoying thing is I didnt find any 50 cal ammo in the whole dlc so I ran out of bullets for the best pistol. I had to make do with the shitty smg and police pistols.
I think theres some armor in the mayors house if you lockpick the door? Or maybe thats the second town, cant remember.
