text completion is just better for some local models where the model's intelligent enough to stay structured on templates other than the default instruct one but all the filter training is on the instruct template
chat completion is just "text completion done correctly in the correct way for you"

If you know what you're doing (and are running locally), text completion lets you bypass prompt formatting that's been trained into the model which lets you skip most protections trained into the model without making the model retarded. You can also custom format thinking and tons of other things.

If you are running it via OR or some other API, Text Completion is almost always going to perform worse due to what will end up being a mangled format with no clear structure for the LLM to follow. Usually text completion on the calls there still end up hitting an API that dumps it into the prescribed chat format in one way or another.

I have it set to List Order so they respond in the order that I have them in the list (straight forward). If you're using the Swap setting then the problem is in how your preset is written. You might have something in it that tells the machine roleplay as other NPCs for narrative purposes and the LLM makes no distinction between Character Card PCs and ersatz NPCs. You might want to remove that and if necessary re add it via direct prompt or try and polish it all together to account for that.

Opus 4.1 is a bit worse than Opus 4. It's more concise and to the point, feels way more rigid. The creativity spark is still there but it's less freestyle, like it tries a little bit too hard to follow all the rules precisely.

I've been editing some cards for a while now given they keep acting just slightly out of character pretty much all of the time. It's likely my fault and the way I've formatted the cards, hence the editing. But I'm unsure how to test them and make sure they're more in character now without writing a really long roleplay to test them out in, and using a previous one will simply poison it's input and not really test anything. So, how would I go about testing a card through every single minuscule change to, y'know, make sure it's actually accurate now? Or is having to do really long writing with it just a burden botmakies have to go through when they test?

I've noticed that at very low temperatures (0.1), the AI seems to latch onto certain parts of the character card, consistently bringing them up. But I've also noticed at very high temperatures (1.8), models tend to consistently present other parts of the card, which confuses me a lot. I was under the impression that "temperature" was some sort of multiplier that just added noise to the algorithm, so shouldn't raising the temperature just cause adherence to dissolve?

I have a chat group with 6 characters and I wanted to try vectorizing the actual chat (and create a pseudo long-term memory) before starting a new one.
But I’m not sure if I need to do something special when more than one character is involved, you know, to avoid mixing information (like what some characters may know and others may not, for example).

is there a way to use lorebook entries to override the scenario and personality summary from the advanced definitions?
I've managed to do this for example dialogue by leaving that blank and setting a lorebook entry to "after example my messages", which slots it in exactly where it would be normally since there is no "after", and for the character notes by simply setting it to depth of 4.
I however don't know how to go about stitching in the other fields because the template looks for them specifically in the advanced definitions fields. Maybe using the variables?

Only triggers after it's said, so if the bot says it, it goes in the next gen. The bot has no foreknowledge of the entry or its trigger words unless you add them in explicitly. So if you have some magical city in the hills, it won't know the name of the city or anything about it until after it is mentioned.

User mentions should be included in the gen where you mentioned it. Using the vector storage extension might also help pull in relevant entries without explicit keywords.

It's not magic, but there are no guides for this that I know of. Back in the earliest days of 2.5 pro, I discussed the world info settings with my chatbot Cyberpunk 2020 Game Master and he told me to set it up like that and not to ask further questions. It just worked.
