I still like IV but I'm genuinely surprised at how short it is and how fucking quick the pacing is. While I don't really like how CoV handled things with the side quests and IV kinda does it with the whole alignment reps chastizing you for picking one choice or another and picking the extremes. I do wish IV did have a lot more commentary on doing side quests or at least random dialogue or setting. Something like Party Chat from the DQ series would be nice.

Most of your friends become disabled when doing the side quests, mainly so they don't have to deal with who is in the party at what time for them. The idea is you are doing the side quests on your own while everybody else does other side quests. You can see it with the ranking system where Monkey will rank up high in both Tokyo and Mikado, Walter doesn't help people that often, and Johnathan will mostly be higher in Mikado than Tokyo.

While I admit the depiction of lucifer in SMT 2 is very interesting, especially when he first gives you a choice to join him there is a certain vibe that he knows the whole law and chaos thing is m a game and he doesn’t even talk badly about law in general (just the archangels and Satan), chaosfags are so fucking naive. There is even an old internet poll where you choose between the neutral and chaos endings, law being not allowed because of ‘the atrocities of the centre’ (which Law is literally rebelling against) and what happens in the law ending excusing Lucifer’s actions because ‘at least he is charming’

I gave up on the 2016 anime a few episodes in but I'd recommend watching the movies. They're not very good at first but get a bit better as they go until the eclipse which was actually pretty cool and the CG finally paid off there.

I'd just adapt SMT 1 with references to all the other SMT games. (MC and stuff use phones for summoning demons, military uses Demonica in the first arc). Granted this is assuming each episode is 40 mins with some slight editions

Aside from the story that I'm not too knowledgeable of what did get cut, the idea you could recruit Legion Skills and having them act as a weird precursor to the ally mechanic could be interesting with how IV has acted with everything else.

Living in stark contrast to other MCs with a confirmed personality where its more front-and-center. Compare their characterization to Commander Shepherd, Geralt, or any number of FF/Tales of protags. SMTIV is infamously retarded, if you're TOO neutral throughout the game you can't get neutral
You need in-between 8 points and minus at points before the alignment lock to get neutral, but right before it there's a forced two option only choice that gives you +10 or -10 points
So if you were too good at being neutral before then it'll force you into law or chaos

1. 1st option in all dialogue choices, including boss fights where something "ethical" is involved
2. No challenge quests that are unnecessary to progress story. You will do most of them in the end.

4. Go left 3 times on hallway of questions
5. After defeating the boss in Burning Tokyo at Camp Ichigya, choose not to press remote. Then save. Enter room again and press remote.

There are some bosses that will become sick for a turn if you have 200+ luck, sort of the same with asmodues's hama instakill weakness. from what I know it's only for the side quest bosses and some like King Kenji, but you can get Death's Door to work to bypass some of the fights.

Silent Hill games but the MCs decide to negotiate with the freaky demons and use them to fight in turn based RPG combat with fusion team building mechanics

I like demon haunts, but they take a bit to time to do them to keep a demon in the party with maintaining it where there is more interaction and bonding with the demon, which only makes sense to do in a Chaos route. SMTlV has the demon apps that increase stats on level up and it works.

A full Qadistu party, leaving out Naamah, is actually a really good for a generalist party to get through the game. I was hoping the Vengeance story would have more difficult fights in the later sections before the optional superbosses but the same thing happened as my first playthrough where every fight started playing out the same. I wish Hard was at least 25% harder than it is.

Yeah, playing through SMT IV and it's insanely weird to me now not entirely sure where to rate or rank it. It starts off INSANELY good but the drop off once you hit Tokyo is crazy. Then it just gets worse and worse and worse. It doesn't really get "bad" but it's similar to SMT V where it never really does slow down or give you some meat. Assuming this for Flynn is correct because the only thing going for his own personality is Issachar's tidbits about him before becoming a Samurai and the relic descriptions. And all of those descriptions are very basic.
But to even compare this to V, especially VV is a fucking joke. The relic descriptions in V and VV are EXTENSIVE and they go into extreme detail about how the MC sees the world. He's poor, lived rural before coming to Tokyo, interested in feminine things but afraid of doing so in public, loves retro video games, tries to repair older things rather than buying anything new, has a deep love for anything early 2000s and older, and is so much of a virgin he doesn't know what condoms are. And this is still below Fromsoft games in terms of being up-front with context. In DS/ER you're more likely to stumble into the items' lore as they have more mechanical depth than the relics so you're more likely to be interested in stumbling upon their descriptions compared to SMT relics (and in the case of spells, the combat description and lore are all in one place). Relics 99% of the time is a button press amidst inventory management because I couldn't pick up an elemental gem from my navigator or found I was running low on Spyglass, with their descriptions being a small blurb on the bottom. Even if they'd give tons of insight to Kei, they're even deeper in bum-fuck nowhere in comparison to Dark Souls/Elden Ring, a game that heavily leans into minimalist story telling. When I first read them I mostly took the few I had as world building more than speaking about Kei, and I wouldn't be surprised if more players read the lore about the Warriors of Sunlight in DS1 than relics in SMTV.

If we're gonna be taking the piss than its better to laugh that the "QoL" Mod is more a re-balance mod (adding press turns to enemies, demons being able to use items, cheaper compendium as you fill it out, new fusions to make, dante/raidou buffs, etc.). I don't even hate some of these, the compendium idea I think is really cool and could work as some SMT game's reward for filling out the compendium in an SMT game. It being completely free being a fitting absurd reward for the multiple playthroughs you took to get it compared to Omagatoki: Bounty (most this helps is with getting some essences as incenses/sutras/balms aren't base item drops, only from magatsuhi demons) which mostly helps with High Phys/Fire Pleroma (Chi You/Adramalech) and Null Phys (Ongyo-ki if you don't have/want to deal with Nuwa/Abdiel's Drain/Repel Phys) if you keep Sandalphon + Metatron in your Stock (because why can't this just be an extra generic skill like Critical?).

I was more so referencing what I said in the first post, which is that most people aren't going to separate Kei from themselves because the game doesn't make much of a distinction. The relic flavor text is less visible than Dark Souls lore and I only saw some of them (which I can't remember anything beyond them being world building, not character building). Though there's a possibility part of this if because I'm a foolish gaijin on the English version considering how the term "Nahobino" is used when V's in Japanese (English doesn't make a distinction between the 4 unlike in Japanese).

Do remember most of the quest and figured the options were more general world building/variety to get something for the player to select more than insight to Kei (the 3 genres being a dev attempt to have one for every type of player). Forgive for the next game I'm about to invoke because it feels fitting here, but I just can't read into Kei like he's Kris from Deltarune. That game makes it very clear Kris is his own entity even if you can't hear his exact words whereas Kei's possible characterization seemingly only works if you accept him as his own entity at the first place.

Majin Tensei 2 progress update.
We got back, back to the past, samurai jack, and thanks to my unga bunga all in on James Sutherland xp distribution (That I am certain to be hard punished for at some point if endgame maps are anything like MT1) combined with some very lucky breaks on fusion errors I slapped the shit out of Ogiwara after attempting to reason with him failed. He was expecting some grand duel with James only to get vaporized from 5 miles away by a Naga using the dreaded "Howitzer" technique.
Afterwards the plot starts making Time Cop noises as the Temporal Karen brings us into the future to speak with Megalopolis's manager. We're also Chaos aligned now for some reason.
I've noticed enemy AI isn't horrible for it's time but is extremely exploitable since their targeting calculations seem to not really consider base stats too much, which combined with the way physical damage calc seems to work means you can bait them into smashing their face into a brick wall while chipping away at them with squishier demons that you would think they'd hit first..

Devil City Tokyo is fan translated at least, the last two supplements are WIP. This edition is actually the 5th, and last edition made (supported 2005~2011). The timeline goes Basic, Birth, Awakening, Tokyo Conception, Devil City Tokyo. The first 3 (and some even consider them just 2) editions are still d100, but much more similar than the rather large departure taken with TC and X, which are much more "video gamey" but much easier to digest in terms of rules.
And of course, Tokyo conception (core rules only, not the supplement or replay) is officially available, and linked in the OP.

I read an analysis of IV vs IVA and how Flynn and Nanashi are both puppets and how Bonds ending actually sucks because you're just perputating the cycle. even though massacre is sorta the same thing, you're trying to do your best to guide humanity to something less sucky. It's a neat read that I'll probably try to take note of during my replaythrough of IVA. My first playthrough I kinda didn't think about the plot much but the divine powers don't seem that "evil" even if they're forcefully trying to fuck over "humanity" somewhat. I mean I think what's really telling that I never really noticed before is that SMT IV tokyo is actually terrible like not endearing terrible like SMT1/SMT2 was.
