It's funny how INTI keeps trying to sell us on Sumeragi being morally better than Eden. Eden's goals were worse, but their motivation and justification were way better than Sumeragi. I find a bunch of vengeful and irrational genocide surviving orphans to be more sympathetic than the megacorp who is building the camps and conducting human experimentation.

Sumeragi's plan was also more evil. Eden wanted to empower all adepts with the muse. The adepts would then individually decide what they wanted to do with their new power. Zonda and GV thought they'd choose to eradicate the minos, but it's just as likely that they wouldn't. Ultimately, Zonda wanted to put a stop to all the oppression and killing of adepts, which is admirable, even if how she thought it'd be achieved were bad. While Nova believes that Sumeragi would have used the diva responsibly to suppress and influence the adepts, it's revealed that the executives' actual plan was to enslave all adepts and turn them into a private army that they'd use to conquer the world.

I would have balked at Eden getting redeemed in GV3, but Sumeragi getting it is nonsensical.

Zed. GV doesn't think much of the guy, but doesn't seem all that angry. He treats Zed like an annoyance.

Asimov. Relationship is complicated. Asimov raised him, but is probably the most evil character in GV not his fault, he was suffering brain damage and physically killed Joule.

Copen. GV doesn't like him, but Copen did save his life from Elise (only to try to kill him right after). GV seems to have a lot of sympathy with nonadepts, and Copen is one of the few characters who he can sympathize with. Elise, Stratos, and none of Eden's sob stories move him. By the end of the second game though, GV was done with him and was going to execute him as he bled on the ground until Mytyl/Joule stepped in.

Nova. Huge personality conflict. GV absolutely wanted to kill him, even in the 3rd game where he's given up on killing. It's extra ironic as Nova is the eXpy of GV, much like GV is a Zero clone, and they both have very similar backstories. Nova could have easily ended up becoming like GV, just like GV could have become like Nova had their circumstances been swapped.

Zonda. She disgusts GV. She permakilled Joule. She was the character he hated the most. He told Tenjian that he'd be sending her to him in hell after he was done with him. In the English script, she's the most sociopathic and evil of the different antagonists too. Even Asimov had a soft spot and positive traits, but Zonda is revealed to have seen everyone, even her brother, as a pawn for her own power. It's apparently different in the Japanese version.

I like Sumeragi better as villains. Eden are better as characters. They're more interesting, more likable, and you get a lot more interaction with them. Eden have actual group interplay, whereas Sumeragi felt like a bunch of individuals, just bosses you kill at the end of the stage. You're introduced to Tenjian, Zonda, and Teseo from the get-go, for instance, whereas you need to wait until near the end of the game before GV and Nova have a conversation in GV1.

I know it's minor, and GV doesn't have deep characterization or anything, but this stuff adds up overtime to give you a completely different feeling towards characters. The English script of GV2 feels way more "Marvel," especially when compared to GV1, GV3, and iX. Are localizations generally this bad?

I think motive is a factor as well. People sympathize with Eden's motive, even if their methods are horrible. Eden have many virtues, and can be downright heroic when doing things like rescuing adepts from death camps. It's easy to put yourself in Eden's shoes and see how you could be radicalized if you were a kid who saw some of the shit they saw. Sumeragi, on the other hand, have bad motives and bad methods, and most of the Sumeragi characters are dicks without many redeemable qualities. They're all about control and money.

English script is bad. I've been comparing the scripts as I've replayed the game, and it's shocking how much they change. Eden are straight up cackling villains. Tenjian is a hypocrite. Finally got around to playing GV3. I like it. I feel like it's as much a Gunvolt game as Luminous Avenger iX tho, since you don't get to play as GV as we used to. The Image Pulse system is by far my favorite equipment system in the series (since you don't have to be hunting down specific materials and most skills do feel useful), having Hard Modes in the same save file as Normal Mode is another plus, and I love the Kudos lock system since there's punishment to getting hit without losing literally everything.

When it comes to Kirin, I'm not a big fan of how her stage gameplay goes, I would've preferred something along the lines of iX2 Quick Razor with multipliers, but the boss fight gameplay might be my favorite in the franchise. It's also the game that I find the most difficult once you hit Merciless Mode.

I also like that we get to interact with boss characters more. They're always the most crazy GV characters. I think the story started out strong but they kinda fumbled the landing. The GV = Bad guy subplot is dumb as fuck. It was written so poorly, specially EDEN, the super evil cultist who wanted to kill all of humanity just because they couldn't stand the faces of those without powers, of all people trying to guilt-trip GV.

Graphics look good, the new screen-character ratio is great, and has an overall good soundtrack. I guess that's my whole review.

The battle against the projected Zonda was way harder than the battle against Zonda with the muse. Also it took me a stupid long time to realize her attacks were based on cards, fuck the club attack.
Overall it was nice, I still don't get how the ranking works, I got an S once and I played that stage like shit.
