They're planning for 40k to be a continuous experience following new editions from the table top to at least 2 editions.

My experience with chariots was always that they might tank one or two easy autoresolves, but they'd always take inordinate amounts of damage and inevitably end up red sooner rather than later because their replenishment can't keep up with the attrition of successive autoresolved battles. The AI gets a lot of cheats as you go up in difficulty. Recruit cost, recruit limit, upkeep, background income, etc. Essentially because there's no way for it to keep up with the player in terms of battle skill it has to just have more units.

There are a lot of races you can ignore control on for the most part even on VH.
If you're learning the game, do a few campaigns on Normal/Hard. Keep battle difficulty on VH (with bonus stats to 0) so you can't AR everything but there's no point in making the game hard when you don't even know what you're supposed to be doing. Just have fun while you win a few campaigns and then up the difficulty (or don't, who fucking cares).

Unironically the "menace from below" by the Skaven is probably the best against artillery and archers. There are also spells with insane range that are specific against artillery from the fire and heavens lores of magic. Other than that very quick cavalry, units with vanguard deployement, stalk, etc.

Egypt is just a fucking tube, isolated from the rest of the map by impassable terrain. You spend 90% of the campaign fighting minor factions with the same rosters over and over and either fight your way down the tube forever, or fight you way up to escape it.
There's no terrain to speak of and no real defensive ground so once you're in the tube you're forced to keep going or else the AI will force March up the Nile and raze your shit. It's the definition of a slog.

Does anyone here enjoy the 20v20 battles? I usually boot up the game, defeat the 1st enemy faction, get my 1st province secured and just leave out of boredom. The first battles are fun but the moment I have 16+ units I just think to myself that I'd rather play something else.

Sure, as the player you probably have a better army composition and can defeat the AI using better battle tactics but there is one big advantage the AI has: the ability to control every single unit it has at the same time. Sure, it won't use them optimally but AI will never fuck up because it lacked the attention. Yesterday I've defeated 2 fullstacks (well, close to full I guess) on turn 4 with an army of what, 14 units or so? But today I've barely won a 16v20+ battle (army + garrison). Maybe it's just the fact that the Warhammer setting doesn't really appeal to me, I may try a historical game

Not all units need the same level of attention. Armies that need little effort are not necessarily weak. The AI fucks up constantly, when you understand how it works you can use fast units to split them up however you want, or force it to group up its units for you to destroy them with artillery or magic. 20v20 is fine, it's 20/40v40 that I rather avoid because it's always 20/40v40(+40 in reserve) which is just exhausting to play, not using large armies on the other hand make it too easy and you end up with 1 stack murdering 4 which doesn't feel fair.
Really the unkeep increase after your second army should skyrocket so having 4 armies should require an entire continent worth of land to sustain even for AI, and 6 armies would be the domination victory thing. Then again this doesn't feel fair for trash stack spamming factions so maybe change unit unkeep so each recruited unit increase unkeep of that unit.
