So I have been a little bit out of the loop with retail WoW and I wasn’t aware the trailer was dropping this month. By the time it released I was already pretty much finished editing this video so I couldn’t reference it in any way. Lots of you have mentioned that it’s a funny coincidence that I made this just as there is a big controversy regarding the look of the elves in the trailer.

I watched the trailer, and honestly, if I didn’t know it was WoW, I would never say what it is supposed to be from. My main issue with the art direction in recent years with retail WoW is that they are always further and further removed from the “Warcraft” look. I understand that things need to evolve and time goes on etc. , which is why I personally don’t play retail since I’m not a fan of the new look at all.

I feel that this new look (and what we saw in the trailer) no longer has that special touch that initially had us hooked on WoW, it’s all going into the really “generic fantasy” territory, with little personality and flair.

It’s a well made cinematic, but not one that appealed to me in terms of the art style and the look of the characters (and I mean both the male and the female characters).

I think it’s not 100% fair to call the female elf downright ugly, but she definitely is on the more masculine side and quite far removed from the blood elf look that we were used to. She might as well be a completely different species if compared to earlier depictions.

I personally prefer the earlier more feminine depictions of blood elves, I think there is enough variety in the races in WoW already for it to not be necessary to change something like this, but it’s my own personal preference, and again another reason why I stick to classic versions of WoW.

I'm thinking of getting into the game as a new player. I come from story heavy MMOs and that's the reason why I play them.
I know WoW lore could be good but I haven't played the game and experienced the story myself.
Is it worth playing now and play through the expansions just to experience the story? I will be playing solo, I don't do raids or dungeons unless there's lore behind them. And since I want to experience the story I wouldn't want to party with a group of people just wanting to finish the dungeon as quickly as possible. Secondly, that rotation is shit.
What you need to do is learn to play. Learn what your buttons do. Learn WHY those buttons may be good/bad better/worse.
And from there find a playstyle that you enjoy that let's you keep mashing button to keep doing damage.

Rotations are probably the biggest bait that makes players play like shit, because someone gets zombie brained into it, then literally any fucking mechanic happens, throws off all the timings, and then you're pressing weaker shit because of the rotation when stronger shit is back up. Or you're blowing something so late it now severely desyncs with something else important. You're overcapping resources and not dumping them.

Start with your talents geared for as many Passives as possible. Then add Active buttons you like as you see fit.
So many builds and rotations are just piles of Actives that look good on a dummy, then turn to shit when a boss does literally anything.

Here's my tips, /wowg/ will probably call me a tard but I think this is what matters if you're new to healing and getting overwhelmed.
1. Get your keybinds right. I like having three rows:
AoE Heals (F1 - F9)
Single Target Heals (Shift + 1-9)
Damage (1-9)

Then place them in order of cooldown (lowest to the left, highest to the right). Generally speaking, higher = bigger and better. When you get an "oh shit everyone is at 25% moment" you don't have to think, you can just see what the largest AoE heal you have is and use it. Then I bind other useful spells, like mobility/buffs/ect to Q, E, R, Z, X, C, F, T, G and B. These are more like your one offs, like a stun on F key and using a defensive self heals on your E key ect.

2. Forget DPS. Unless you're pushing mythics no one gives a crap if the healer DPS, if someone does care ignore them. Keep people alive, that is your job. Bring in DPS when you get bored (because you got good at healing).

3. Set up your UI properly. Make it large enough that you can clearly see and click on each name, make sure you show HP%. 99% of healing is staring at this box yes its shit but welcome to WoW.

4. Don't know what spec you're playing but generally it works like this: Keep Heals over Time/shields up on the tank 24/7, prioritize your most mana efficient single target heal as much as you can (every guide will tell you what this is for your spec), mash the AoE heals when everyone gets hit. You will over time come to learn when people are going to take lots of damage, its never a surprise, you're just inexperienced for now. But you'll start to realise when those moments are by repetition rather than nutting down on mechanics to understand math, intuition like.

5. Healing is the most difficult job. DPS is the easiest. If it gets too much just do that instead.
