Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

I just got my failed experiment boys, but decided to leave them in the fort, with the exception of the shek which is not OP and actually has some narrative potential (he has been humiliated by the experiments and needs to recover his honor or some shit). I also left a robot in my fort that I had prison broke during my last trip because I promised a quiet life after being deprogrammed from being a mindless killers, so I could use that shek as my new heavy weapons guy. With him we're 9 adventurers.

I was wondering, what should I get as my 10th guy/lass? I was thinking about beep, but the group is kind of a cinical bunch. Hobbs is an insane alcoholic. Leader is kind of fine with throwing weaklings to the fort for force labor, but not for the actual adventure group who kicks ass and does shit. Ruka would probably hate him. Zun is an edgelord. Sadneil is kind of ok I guess, as much as he's ok with with nothing and everything. Doc would find him adorable probably. The other two are kind of weak so they might see him as someone who would make them look better in comparison.

Should I get beep? is there any other more interesting option for my group? I'm partial for a hiver because that's the only race I'm missing, but maybe I would prefer a heavy guy instead. I've never had one.

That's the idea. The game doesn't quite eliminate them once you do so but the homeless spawns and nests will cease. Here's an example of a loophope: In vanilla if you kill the Crab Queen then Crab Town will be taken over by the Fishmen regardless of the status of King Gurgler.
