A few level 80 activities shower you in Tomes of Knowledge. Using one of these gives you 1 level (or spirit shards at max level, useful for legendary crafting). World vs World and PvP (I'm pretty sure) in particular give you a ton of these. You also do get 1 per week from your wizardmart weeklies but that's a slow trickle. I only played WvW consistently for like 6 months and have like 1k tomes at least in my bank.
For leveling quickly, follow the Adventure Guide in your achievement window, completing stuff on that gives you massive exp. Meta-events grant a large chunk, check the event table on the wiki ("/wiki et" in game opens it). There are a lot of different boosters and exp buffs you can get, or at least will be able to as you grow your account. Monsters actually gain an exp buff the longer they're alive and this even includes ambient creatures like deer/moa/etc, so one thing people do is pop all the boosters they can, find a rarely traveled area of an empty map where the monsters etc probably have been alive for a long time and thus have fat exp bonuses.

Necromancer is top overall, one of the stronger base game classes without any dlc too. You mostly do dmg with debuffs and dots as a base necro, shroud is your second healthbar essentially.
You don't really tank in this game, it's a support job for some specific raid bosses and that's it. Every class can become damage resistance with skills and gear tho, necro is good at that out of the box.
You need to play for a bit at max level to start getting thing that help leveling alt, like +xp gain buffs or strait up levelup books. In expansions you get mounts that help leveling and unlocking even more.

Trinkets > armor > weapons in my opinion, though armor is valuable because of free transmog. For me it's all about how many builds I will potentially use that item on. Plus I honestly find it more convenient to have ascended weapons on hand instead of swapping with legendaries. So, I'm level 67 on my Rev now, and if I'm reading this correctly, the dwarf stuff just gives you like 60% damage reduction?
-20% damage from the spinning hammers
(traits)

-10% damage when you have Resolution
-10% damage for 2 seconds after a dodge roll(that also gives you resolution)
I see the demon traitline also has a 20% damage reduction when you have Resistance, and then there's also Protection and Rite of the Great Dwarf.

No, it's a fun game with plenty of life in it. Even the most generous estimates of any sort of sequel would be like 3 years minimum and the studio has a history with their last game of keeping things running smoothly after that happens. They even talked recently about how they wish they supported GW1 more into and after GW2 launch so there may even be some content updates after a potential sequel launch.
There's a new expansion coming at the end of October and lots of people joining lately because of that and some other outside factors. The horizontal progression etc mean that even the oldest expansion content is actively played. There are plenty of people around willing to help if you need some bodies for an event or anything. The core game is free. The expansion content is a lot better but the core game should give you a decent idea of whether you might like the game so just give it a try. There is a sale going on right now though, not sure how long it will last.

Dungeons are mostly dead content for 1-80 leveling.

Fractals are more traditional instanced 5man content for level 80+ with scaling difficulty and "challenge mode" for the last 5 levels. Challenge mode takes the base mechanics and cranks them up to 11 on most fights.

Raids are 10man content with a story attached to each "raid wing" there's 8 of them each featuring at least 3 encounters. Wings 5-8 have challenge modes for all bosses.

Strikes are instanced 10man individual boss fights. Ice Brood Saga is just 5 training dummies to kill. End of Dragons and Secrets of the Obscure introduced much harder strike missions with challenge modes that have been completed by less than 3% of the playerbase. Some of these will take months to learn but are fun if you like the difficulty.

Legendary Challenge Mode is available on 2 encounters in the game and will br a multiple month learning process too.

If you're solely instanced pve your week is basically.
Daily fractals + CMs is about 2h with oug groups. Raid wings 1-4 about 3-4h, Raid wings 5-7Cm about 3h. Raid wing 8, 1 hour no CMs. Content on that one is too new to consistently full clear. Daily strikes+ doing each of the weekly strike CMs 3-5 across a week. All assuming full knowledge.

You care to some degree and people who want to larp like they don't should be playing text only games instead. I'd rather this game be in UE5 than whatever engine it's in now. There's way too much clipping for clothes, faces all look like shit, and bodies are all the same with almost nothing comforming to your actual shape. The best looking things in engine are the mounts, bosses, and some hair styles. The game can look good and be fun to play stop acting like you have to choose.
