You have to sort of know what the best play the opponent can make coming up is and play around that to an extent. Will it snowball if you leave their board up and cost you the game? Can they clear your board easily? Will they have lethal if you don't clear?

I wouldn't trade a 7/1 into a 1/1 or some shit outside of exceptional circumstances but in general, it's knowing what can lose you the game and playing around that while also making the most annoying plays possible for your opponent to deal with.
