it’s the ultimate meme visual novel — 95% of it is utter garbage, but people gaslight themselves into thinking it’s good because of the so-called “prose” and a climax that recontextualizes the whole story. all the heroines are trash despite showing potential during the common route, the entire first route even sidelines the main heroine thanks to the plot twist at the end of common. said plot twist basically makes everything you learned during the common route mostly pointless thus the entire first route is really just there to establish the actual setting, so it ends up being nothing but one info dump after another. i’m not exaggerating when i say there’s virtually no normal dialogue in futami’s route, aside from one scene where the protagonist urinates on a side heroine or something, so it just feels awful to read for the most part. the actual chuuni elements are terrible too—shumon couldn’t write a fight scene to save his life, and it’s especially obvious in how contrived the protagonist’s main ability is so it just feels like one asspull after another, and while some people like to praise shumon’s prose, these parts are especially awful to read.

honestly, i don’t think there’s anything worth saving in that visual novel, aside from maybe the overall production values and konome being wife but it’s hard to say it’s worth slogging through all that just for her, especially since her route isn’t anything special either. most of the complaints i have about itsukatodokuanokusoni apply to most of shumon’s works anyhow, such an awful writer.

It is certainly heavy on info dumps, especially when Meme starts talking about ancient history, but I don't think that ruins it. In every scene with Futami and Konome, there was obviously unresolved conflict there, so I expected an explanation sooner or later. The only real complaint I have is that they didn't have any CGs for Saku's vision at the end of the common route. You have to use your imagination because they just didn't have the budget to illustrate it, lol. In that sense it has kind of aged poorly.

Futami route (what I've read of it so far) seems extremely... tender. It's about two awkward people who skipped over a lot of important steps in their relationship because of outside circumstances throwing them together. They both try to be considerate of the other person's feelings, but sometimes being so considerate actually ends up hurting the other person more, because politeness is a sign of distance. It might be a bit overwrought with the way it simmers in sentimentality, but that's just Shumon's style, and Futami is an endearing character so it's not like I mind spending more time with her.

Surechigau Kyoudai no Kowareru RinrikanThe worst game I've played. Nowhere on the game site is there reference to a dark route aside from the slightly edgy opening song. I guess the reference to destroyed boundaries in the title but I assumed that referred to the incest in the game (silly me). The pure love route feels weirdly short, and questionably pure in the H scenes (that library scene genuinely made me wince). The darker "putting her in her place" route (barf title) is disgusting. Blackmail, rape and yet we then get Haruhi acting apologetic towards her abuser. The writing is genuinely terrible. If I had known that the darker content was in the game I would not have bought it - from the description I was expecting more emotional drama vs blackmail as a more serious plot device. Just eww.

You're supposed to read all the routes following the ladder structure: Kaya -> Himeo -> Asami -> Mitoko. The epilogue to Mitoko's route, which is the true ending, only unlocks if you've read everything. Also there's a special extra scene that unlocks if you finish Himeo's route again after reading the entire game.

Tsubaki's route was by far the best of the 3 side-heroines and the only one I think really matched the main chapters for me. Kanon's was okay with a few good moments, and Mizuha's felt like a big case of missed potential. I like battle of wits stuff in general so I've liked all of the main story chapters a lot. I can see why someone would get bored of the side-routes when they sort of abandon the main plot the moment they start. The comedy is actually pretty good.
