I usually hover around 390-430k which is enough to get me promoted to rank 6 but demoted to 5 again. One time I did TT, picking the bottom option and not using any item to help, I suddenly achieved 490k. I lost 2 of the races, and only have a couple umas placed 2nd and 3rd. I never reproduced that score again for the next 2 weeks. Still don't know what happened.

Priority 1 is building an uma that will win
Priority 2 is having 3 umas in different positions. Front/Pace/Late or Pace/Late/End or whatever. Don't double-stack them so you have two Pacers
Priority 3 is getting as many gold skills as possible (Curve and Maestro obviously good) because gold skill activations count for a lot.
Priority 4 is picking up as many useful skills as you can that will hopefully activate during the race for points.

You get points for being "in good position", per position. So your Pacer will hopefully be hovering in the top 10-30%, your Front should be at the front, etc. Then you also get points for winning, obviously.

You can make sure you have 1 Lone Wolf on each team. Don't just play the bottom ranking opponent, you will score less vs. them than the higher ranks.

That's why people have been calling it the whale's CM, you need premium stats just to hit stamina minimum with capped speed. The good news is people exaggerate how many actual whales are in the pool and even though /uma/ is going to tell you otherwise, you don't need to cap speed to do well. Just hit your stamina and guts minimums and you will be ahead of the curve.
