POE2 is a slog, bosses take 10-15 minutes and are able to 1-2 shot you at times. Melee classes are fucked, the gameplay is extremely slow and the endgame is pure cancer.


Diablo IV is faster, can reach the endgame in a couple of weeks, get your seasonal items and stop playing and more importantly it's fun to play. It also looks better and has no microsutters.

Why has this never been asked in any interview ever? Everyone knows the reason why armor is bad but no one has ever brought it up? Why is that? Realistically, I think the formula is probably fine because there is likely some shit they haven't incorporated on tree that would make it good. What I am finding with GGG is that they want players to "invest" in a stat rather than just wet their toes and be good. Which is why some things are really hefty offenders and others aren't. Like if you had to invest HEAVILY in armor for it to be really good, I'd be fine with that. However, if deflect ends up being easy to cap out and utilize then I will be pissed about that.

Here's a somewhat contrived comparison of the disparity between left side tree and right side tree. Whereas rangers can path straight to the outer ring and collect 2 and 3 pointers that are almost always relevant to their builds, warriors are constrained by niche passives along their main highways, and access to crit in inoportune regions that don't grant access to jewel slots. This is just basic math. In the same number of points, without really trying, the ranger has vastly more %damage increases, vastly more %evasion scaling (an additional ~60%), and access to base crit, herald scaling, as well as free selection of generous nodes on the outside of the tree scaling accuracy, crit, damage and attack speed.

Look at the warrior tree and you'll note the pathing is completely fucked, the crit nodes aren't as numerically good, and are marred by downsides that make it more difficult to use, ramping mana costs etc. The main outer highways also give less access to generic stats like accuracy, attack speed, and crit, and instead grant a bunch of niche stats, that aren't necessarily useful to your character. The warriors tree is much more disorganized, mathematically provides less %damage, and has less access to jewel slots if going for crit scaling.

If you are a dev, you need to understand how poorly this is designed even at a visual glance. It's plainly obvious to see the pathing superiority in the top setup, the ability to dip for crit and good nodes like subterfuge, and the lack of any comparable scaling on the left. Dex classes even have more generic access to their own attributes on nodes you are taking anyway. The left side of the tree, which has been hamstrung into strength stacking, actually has to take a bunch of shit nodes it doesn't want to get attributes.

Warriors is the most contrived artificial version of fun there is. The class fundamentally sucks to play, feels terrible, moves back actions bad but they just gave it high numerics to make it work on the game.
You beat the content but feel completely empty doing so as warrior. It is the most unfun unsatisfying melee combat to ever exist in this current gaming landscape by a massive margin. thats not fully true either. as supply increases a lot of stuff gets cheap even well into a league. Six links are extremely expensive early on, for example, but late league you can get a 6-link for 1c.

same with Uniques, the supply increases constantly as a league goes on and they're not really consumed by anything short of being turned into chance shards, so late league they're quite cheap outside of top 0.1% chase items. Deepest Tower price only ever went down in 0.2, same with Doryani's Prototype in 3.26 because supply eventually outstrips demand.

they actually indirectly buffed the strat I used last league, and nobody even knows what it is. it's not some mega OP broken strat but it's passive, extremely simple, requires zero investment, and I made like 6 divines an hour with it and had over 100 divs by day 3 which is way more than I ever needed for anything before I beat all content and quit the league.

I experienced a similar situation with an in-game marketplace in a difference game called Dark and Darker. Completely different in genre, but the issue was the same: devs specifically said they wanted an older-style trading system in place. the thing is, there was variety WITHIN cyclone slayers because CoC builds existed. Lightning spear is just one archetype and it doesn't even change between classes. it's just a catch-all generalized clear skill that every build used because it was so good. "cyclone slayer" was at least 2; some builds used cyclone itself as the kill skill, some used it as a vehicle for CoC, some non-slayer builds used it as a vehicle for casting offerings for their minion(s). and cyclone wasn't even OP because it only ever killed what was in your vicinity, not four screens away like Lightning Spear, or like old Tornado Shot which itself was still never 45% of the meta as LS was.

tl;dr lightning spear isn't even the real problem, it's that there's no viable skill variety or competition in poe 2 currently.
