It's probably a lot different now with githubs and everything, but back in early 2000 they just email you literal notepad files with raw text someone hacked up. The "higher-ups" decided who gets what. A couple of people were doing all the clear check scenes, some were doing main story, some were doing sex scenes, etc. I was in charge of all the main dialogue so after they gave me the files, you just translate, reply, then that was it. It was a fucking mess due to it because a certain character would sound like a different person at different times. I suggested specific people grab specific characters but there were too many so after I did my main story stuff, I just fucked off. I actually haven't played the game with the translation in its entirety, but I do know that some of the stuff I did were changed somewhat to probably match the rest of the text. If you're doing a solo project, good luck but it's gonna be much better. If you're asking for anything technical, I got no clue bro.

I'm doing it basically completely solo and it's a nightmare. Shit doesn't end and I often feel like the quality isn't good because of how many lines I have to pump out on a regular basis if I want this to be done this decade still, not to mention editing will be a nightmare since I'll need to adjust everyone's speech patterns. Also H scenes are extremely annoying to me personally because it's either random moans or the narrator writing the most convoluted sentences imaginable. Editing is not gonna be fun.

That's the issue. You aren't actually reading it for free, someone else (whales) are paying for it. Now, you are probably thinking "I am not the one spending money, what's the issue?". Well, a gacha being a business focused model means they have to constantly introduce new characters. This can lead to issue like older characters not getting any development or being sidelined causing the story to possibly suffer, especially if newer characters are less appealing than the older ones.
