I have never seen a more spectacular way of punching out all fun from a game. Last season i had plenty of plans on running both new and old raids with the bros, finish up on grabbing some guns from dungeons and generally just playing the game. Now everyone's stuck in Portal hell and i'm wondering how the hell anyone greenlit this.

Every single systematic change with the EoF is fundamentally flawed and complete dogshit, I still find it funny that redditfags were coping in the first 2 weeks saying "we just have to wait and see!" now they are all bitching because surprise surprise the systems are actually dogshit.

The portal has a variety of activities but the entire progression system is designed around the most efficient activity for levelling, so naturally people will burn themselves out playing solo ops or w/e activity till they are bored and quit after they reach whatever power level they wanted to reach or leave before that because its boring. Also no-one is playing Desert Perpetual because not only is it just a dog shit raid its loot is mid and you can't even get T5 loot because its timegated.

This entire expansion and update was cutting back on actual content and trying to make it the most bare minimum dogshit imaginable with very minimal dev effort and costs. There is simply no fixing the shit heap they are in.

It wasn't the DLC that made Osiris and Saint faggots, which was clearly shown that they were simply fireteam buddies and had a close friendship, but holy fuck there was almost nothing redeeming about CoO.
Finding Saint's body in the infinite forest and the forge was ok/good.

Why bungie insists on the grind when it's clearly killing the playerbase because people eventually give up on the grind, I'll never understand.
If they just removed power globally, set difficulties with some numbers for nerds to see how difficult it was, but "easy, normal, hard, very hard, legendary" as difficulty indicators, we'd be in a better place. Then we could focus on rolls on weapons and armour and play the content we actually want to play instead of grinding max power.
I'm at like 200 power and I have 0 desire to grind it up on boring shit like solo ops.

I saw a random video the other day of somebody wondering if Desert will lose the current loot label given how we had those situations from 30th anni and onward when we’d have a raid and dungeon simultaneously grant pinnacles acting as “current end game”. I know the pessimistic answer is probably the most realistic, but that is some bullshit to think how ungodly short that raid will be for existing with its loot being relevant especially with how it will only have a few months of its loot able to be a tier 5. I guess on the bright side good thing most of the loot sucks and the crossbow is gimmick carried by temp mod, but yeah Edge of Fate’s value tanks by a fuck load. Especially with how the Kepler shit will be trashed

I think the portal system fundamentally is flawed, because even if we had no power levels and just selectable difficulties it falls to the same issue when we have generic loot pools for Solo/fireteam ops and pinnacle ops. People will just farm the most efficient time to drop activity for the loot, we simply just need to go back to how we had unique weapon sets and loot for a specific activity like how seasonal loot worked.

Basically it'd be the same issue regardless of power levels which are their own issue but the main issue imo is just how the whole portal system is designed.

I think the Crossbow has long-term viability potential, but it needs some better perk combos and exotic synergy. Like you said, it's largely being carried by the mod, but a big problem with the Crossbow as a weapon type is that it synergizes with nothing else of value, so you can't reasonably integrate it into a build.
I think that if we get another crossbow that's either a bit more accessible or has some more versatile perk combos, and maybe get crossbows added to some Exotic functions, you'll see them get better adoption.

You know a fix for the variety and rewards situation would be crafting. If we had to play different activities to get reds to craft guns people would be all over the game. Now imagine if you can use five reds to up a level after you get the pattern. Now the grind has meaning. You'd see people putting time into pinnacle and fireteam ops and see progress that matters to them game to game. That lame drop you shard for cores may drop red and be just what you need to push you up a level. All the random drops are more enticing. Everything drops at tier 2-3 but you get reds to up your crafting level. Suddenly I did not waste my time here with junk destined to be shards. I'm grinding and can push one gun up to tier 4 then get access to enhanced mods and feel rewarded. Just a thought.

It was, even on my ancient 10GB 3080. It had some frametime issues at launch, those could be fixed with some tweaking or mods back then but now it's unnecessary. Even the PS5 version ran great. As for The Finals, I don't think you're giving it enough credit. Sure, stylistically it's a bit clean but there's a lot going on there and it just runs great. That to me, is the best example of a UE5 game. Incredible visuals with great performance and scalability. Not to mention all of the destruction and physx interactions. Plus 120fps while looking as good as it does on a base PS5 and XSX is very impressive:

I think the larger problem in all this is the current season loot system, once Star Wars comes this will be the first time in awhile that a new raid has its drops have some limitations to it being a current thing. Compare that to say Lightfall where RoN got to be the current raid dropping pinnacles until King's Fall came out.
