Zones used to be contained and have 1 dominant theme in them, usually with a strong color to go with that theme.
Icecrown has a dark blue and white color palette because it's supposed to represent dark, cold ice and snow, representing death
Crystalsong Forest right next to it has a softer, white, pinkish and orange color which are the colors of the sky in northern countries during winter mornings, a more peaceful zone.

What's the theme of Isle of Dorn?
What's the theme of Ringing Deeps? It's a cave so it's gray, no deviation, it's not gray for any fantasy reason, it's gray because it's a cave and caves are gray irl (not really, they're often colorful or light brown)
Only zone that was done well visually in TWW was Azj-Kahet.

The core problem is that they keep leaning into realism when they should be doing the opposite, it's a fantasy franchise.

You want to make zones that stand out, in WoW the artists have the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild and the best they can come up with is:
A green island with gray architecture and quite literally soulless inhabitants, where's the titan greek inspired stuff?
A gray cave with parts of vegetation and water (the only good part of Ringing Deeps)
A green and rocky Hallowfall with zepplins, the structures here are good, a solid zone
A dark spooky spiderpeople cave, fittingly designed as the area of the first raid in the expansion

And yes flying is cancer and I would permanently remove it from the game if I had the power to do so but the zones are not visually bad exclusively because of them.
Make memorable zones, the artists need to stop handicapping themselves with realism

Yeah, it is 2 casters (stairs) + 2 melee (stairs) + 1 melee (patrol) + a bunch of small charging mobs. It is very easy to execute. This is also the only proper way to pull right side. Going for double caster packs - that is 100% retard tank detected. Unless, in a coordinated group with a DK which has death grip on the panel and would be intellectually capable to pull-in both casters.
But again, when you go double casters - you also inevitably pull small charging fuckers which will eat party. Plus, it is still very easy to asspull that melee patrol with even more charging fuckers.
Generally, going for double caster pack on the right is recipe for disaster.

Looking at RTS games specifically, what will often happen is that players will determine something to be imbalanced, and it (at the time) appears so, and immediately ask for balance changes. I'll use a league based example, everyone thinks mel is super OP and has a very high banrate, but her winrate is like 49%, so statistically she must not be, but why do players say this? It's because she just shut downs and make the game less fun for other players, often negating plays and neutralizing with her w, or it's a knowledge gap issue because she's new and therefore it's a self solving solution so the solution is to do nothing and let people adjust. The solution might not be easily apparent and that's where the skill of a game dev comes in. The thing is this is a pve game and enjoyment is less 0 sum than a pvp game, so they can often act of feedback more often with a less strict feedback framework.

That being said blizzard has notoriously and still is quite bad at player communication. Ghostcrawler was more open with his dev water coolers, and people like phreak explain a lot of the reasons why they do their changes every patch so you understand their philosophy, and I think it's a lot more genuine like that and you get a lot less bad faith feedback. Also the devs for remix have been some of the worst cases of mismanagement in recent history, so then arrogantly going again with the nose pointed up and ignoring feedback is very rich and a clear example of developer arrogance.

Also these niggers caved into the ret discord protest and now ret is a top 6-7 spec so idk what's going on at blizzard.

And Legion, while being great, has only spawned expansions-failures.

I played TBC and compared to vanilla it was a lot better. Specs were more functional and endgame was more fleshed out and questing was more coherent. It really was basically an upgrade on almost all fronts. It still was boring compared to the game now but yeah.

The game was far more social then. The way I experienced TBC thoughever, was doing random BG's and getting welfare pvp gear. Raiding capped out at Kara because I couldn't figure out the attunements at first, and then I couldn't get a raid spot. So me and most other people that did pugs were stuck at T4 Kara, magtheridons lair, and running heroics. Heroics were actually pretty easy if you were not a moron and just CC'd trash in pulls, but for some reason a lot of people have this weird nostalgia of them being super hard. Not the case at all.

The big problem with BC is that most of the raid content 2.1 and later was inaccessible to 90% of the playerbase. I even read later that only 1% of the playerbase even made it past the first or second boss of sunwell.
Wrath was a good middle ground there for raiding. I got to PUG everything.


So I was there, I enjoyed BC even though it was lacking in some ways.

Then Chris Metzen's disembodied face and hands a la Andross in Star Fox 64 appears and we have to use Skyriding to defeat him by using our extra action buttons to shoot B-bombs into his open mouth once he opens it. This is specifically why we introduced the CVar ActionCam back in Legion. After you defeat Metzen he unmakes reality and kills everyone except for himself.
Then the servers shut down forever.
