I really wish E33 had actually been a 10/10 game. The story, but more so the "cinematography" and the build up of the mystery, was so good in Act I. Then the main character is replaced with an all knowing unreliable exposition dump narrator, and then in Act III the main character is once again replaced with an even more all knowing unreliable exposition dump narrator. We might have been able to say that Chrono Trigger had finally been "replicated" if E33's female writer had been able to resolve the narrative within the narrative. That’s the biggest issue with it. After the opening it’s one giant nothingburger. Zero companionship, an unironic “slavery……is le bad???” mid point plot that meanders on far too long. Characterization and dramatic moments are thrown in the trash. Like one of the big marquee moments for the game is in the beginning with Clive “accepting the truth” when we shortly afterwards find that’s bullshit and can guess Joshua is alive.

The plot doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be, the themes don’t know where it’s going, characters are underdeveloped because potential cast members are killed off too early. Story is legit 3/10 stuff. You know shit is cooked when a literal faggot is the most dynamic and interesting character.

FFVII Rebirth is the ATB Command based model they should use moving forward, and they should nurture it further and further.
Add Jobs, add in costume changes. Add in more build customization.
They could even contract it to be used by another studio for a spin off or two, maybe try a mid budget Final Fantasy I-VI Remake?
Proof of concept for another retro remake would be amazing. 2D HD be damned
