People always say this but control playstyles are designed around turn 10 wincons to begin with. Dirt beats spellboost. Control Forest beats spellboost. Puppet is disadvantaged but playable. Lapis Haven loses but it's awful to begin with. The only control deck we've seen to date that's significantly affected is Artifact.

If that was the case then people would be playing AF because Sword is way more of the ladder than Rune but Sword can beat AF because of Gildaria. If you play AF, the Rune matchup isn't even that bad because they don't really put out much pressure so you can spam beta most of the match and end the game before turn 10 a lot of the time when Ralmia is 12 damage on turn 8 and 9. I think it's honestly an easier matchup than Sword. What REALLY fucks up AF is Mid Abyss. Mid Abyss is by far the worst of the 3 meta matchups.

Every control deck loses to Control Sword, he's right that nothing changes. You can't beat 3 extra sevos that also board clear unless you're Ramp and you god draw. Even MidSword can grind out ward haven and Control Abyss, let alone an actual control sword. In the late game once people are top decking, there's Yurius as well that flat out wins the game if you can't remove him.

What the fuck is your argument even supposed to be? Dirt beating spellboost has been understood since week 1. Spellboost can't clear Lilanthems, so she's worth 10-16 damage on her own on curve before Satan DClimb can be represented. It's basically impossible to push the aggro as spellboost in the match up which makes it very difficult to find Kuon lethals. The match up is heavily reliant on resolving the Lilanthems but dirt cycles almost as hard as actual spellboost. Everyone who's played the decks understands this match up which is why the number 1 rune player was running Lilanthem for weeks, dirt is bad due to other match ups, not due to spellboost.

I queued into more Sword than Rune with AF this set and the Rune matches were easier. Sword can high roll draw you out of the game but Rune all panic heal with Norman instead of making a Golem board that I'd have to be passive about and remove with Gamma, so I just beta all day and spam 4 to 12 damage every turn.

It's not a complete free win like it was in set 1 but it's still not too bad.

Gildaria is the real offender because of the free sevo. Technically getting a sword player to use up sevo points makes it much more easier to control their board and Albert less lethal but that's all out of the window because you need to survive three free sevo Gildaria first somehow.

Abyss is a bit weird in balance discussions. It's probably better than Rune if you judge it as a whole craft but I'd still put spellboost over any individual abyss deck. The thing about abyss that's really annoying is that aggro abyss and midabyss are both high tier decks which require different mulligans, and you can just lose the game outright if you mulligan against the wrong one. It's like the face dragon/ramp dragon mulligan from set 1 only abyss is actually good for real instead of being a week 1 bait deck.

Sword is definitely the top craft but you mulligan the same against every sword variant so you don't have stolen games as often.

aggro abyss vs sword comes down to how many aragavys and apollos aggro abyss drew into. sword can usually shut down aggro's early game with prim, samurai, lancetrooper, and valse. if lumimage didnt give ward it'd probably flip from being 40-60 for sword to 60-40 for aggro with sword's early game still keeping them in the matchup

Artifact portal will be played more to beat sword. Roach stocks will go up to kill artifact. Ward haven will then rise to btfo roach. Lamp will be ramping up to go over ward haven. Aggro abyss popularity depends on how much rampers and wards in ranked. Sword and abyss will remain as the two premium midrange deck.
