Dark Willow's kit is all about CC l, 3/5 spells are about crowd control, Shadow Realm is for laning and survivability unless you build her as magic artillery (right clicker, not caster) while Bedlam is for early ganks but falls off massively, it's for pushing a lane and a deterrent for enemies to hug you since you can't cast it on allies anymore.

Shiv's got way less voicelines than some of the newer heroes, the VA voices Shiv and Pocket (very funny considering how different they are but if you look at DOTA Valve consistently gets very different performances out of the same VA, DOTA is one of the only places you'll hear Nolan North do a different voice) though so I hope that indicates a level of commitment that they'll get him back in to do more lines.

I think with Shiv we literally can't know what's up with him until Valve decide to go in a certain direction, it's clear there might be something going on but I think as one of the Neon Prime re-tools they're not 100% on what they want with him (and see Shiv Mole Man placeholder model...). Shiv seems like a 'watch this space' hero in this way to me, though I think his kit won't get retooled much.
Fun note Shiv's little vial is a reference to Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I had a funny coincidence when I watched that movie and then got into Deadlock shortly thereafter, or it was the other way round. Did a double take when I saw the vial.

I guess it does combo really well with regen but i'm not sure what I would replace. I've started running kinetic dash now because it increase fire rate even more and more importantly gives you a ton of ammo, no other ammo item is as good.

You can build Shiv in a lot of ways and still be effective. That said if you want to do a spirit shiv it should be around his knives and thus not really a Torment Pulse kind of build. You don't understand shiv then. First off, the scaling on Shivs dash is extremely good and in rage it can hit twice which will absolutely fucking NUKE people if they get hit by both. Secondly, it's FUCKING SHIV. He is NATURALLY tanky because of how his deferred damage works and he uses a fucking SHOTGUN which is ideal in close quarters.

Anyways, with this build i've been using (plus kinetic dash which i've added) it gives shiv a lot of sustain while still being able to stack a lot of spirit power into his abilities and importantly healing tempo + kinetic dash gives shiv prettty good gun DPS on top and THEN on top of that shiv gets very good move speed allowing him to chase effectively or run away when need be.This isn't a pure all out spirit build but it's the main damage component. Torment pulse is a good suggestion because it helps trigger radiant regen's passive without shiv having to rely on hitting a knife/dash. As long as someone gets close he can start activating it and the effect stacks with every target that takes spirit damage from you.

Shiv, Haze, Yamato, Mina, Mirage, Seven. Go with Paige, Ivy, Kelvin (best option), Infernus (Dashfernus), and Abrams. Kelvin is the best option here because he's really good at everything. Alternatively, if you want an auto win, go with Spirit Warden and max your ult first and get movement speed, just don't ult in front of the enemy when they have stuns.

Very. Some heroes and builds are built entirely on melees. Abrams being the number 1, and he possesses and ability that guarantees a heavy melee on whoever it hits if he has Duration Extender.
Yamato also has a popular melee build because, her ultimate makes her Unstoppable, meaning she can't get slowed or stunned for any reason, including when parried.
Billy was recently added, and he gets a lot of buffs from melee. Although, he can get those buffs from light melees, so you might not get many opportunities to parry.
Light melees are often free, but when an enemy is extremely low health, they expect any melee, and experienced players will parry as a last ditch effort when they know they are going to die. They bet that you ran out of ammo and will melee them as a finisher.
Definitely train on parrying, if anything. Get used to the sound of a heavy melee.
When you reach a high enough rank, you will see players BAIT a parry out of you by initiating a heavy melee attack and then doing a 180 to avoid coming in contact with your parry. When you use a parry but don't actually get melee'd, your parry goes on cooldown for 4 seconds, meaning anyone can safely heavy melee you. Your parry has no cooldown if you do parry a hit.
There's heavy mindgames involved with melee.

All her abilities, minus her 2 (non-damaging) are projectiles that she has to aim, her 1 and 3 being slow and requiring prediction and set-up from items or coordination from teammates. I know that sounded like an aimlet cope (I am an aimlet) but I just think the idea is cool. Sadly a lot of the designs are streamlined. We have a few unique ones but I kinda wish some of the heroes had more crazy ultimates. You have to realize that in order for them to release it for real, they have to not only finish up and polish the map and all characters and finish the roster (if there are any after this batch) but ALSO add in a full progression system and a hat system.
