You can talk to a battlemaster at a capital to activate war mode and be perma PvP flagged, you can get in a lot of world pvp that way once you reached cross-faction areas at lvl30+, more about that here https://twow.link/warmode
With or without war mode you can group and guild with opposing faction, only sharing quests doesn't work

You can also go on Epoch, they have their own general, it's a new server with an active PVP realm but as the server is new there is way less "new content" as on Turtle

They try to make everything viable in PVE by changing talent trees and adding one or two new spells here and there. For exemple, arcane mage seems to be the most changed class with 3 new spells, and is a DPS topper, flavor of the month is melee hunter and seems currently broken, you can even tank with shaman

Turtle is more casual, if you communicate with your dungeons partners that you are new, they'll be patient with you, otherwise they'll at least expect you to know the dungeon layout and that could be the problem in some situations. You can worry about raids later, the first big one, Molten Core, just got reworked a bit on Turtle so you can consider yourself on a semi-equal playing field for those bosses' new mechanic

Small Stormwrought review:
This dungeon is, design wise, what Gnomeregan should have been with its back entrance. The first half being the castle and the second being the cave system feel like a proper journey if done back to back, and it is peak WoW dungeon design. It does not get better than raiding a haunted castle. The "back entrance" in Gnomeregan was a flop since there is no proper Gnomeregan part 1 and Gnomeregan part 2 for anyone to do, confusing useless dungeon. Here, it feels like two functional dungeons stitched back to back for flavor.
The hype is also there because of Balor as a whole. Seeing the size of the castle while riding to Balor for the first time was really cool to me, and then I did like five quests there that turned out to be chain quests leading into the castle, one of them giving me the key for the second part of the dungeon. And lets not forget the silly secret boss at the end that you unlock by pulling hidden levers during the last section of the dungeon, kino gaming.
As for the bad part, it is a bugged. I could not leave combat and had to leave and come back just to drink my mana juice and I was rock hard during the 2m86 soft dom succubus boss fight.

So, I completed Balor and every single quest there besides the one that requires me to go inside the raid (six of them). I'm a Horde druid.

1 The single graveyard in the zone is awful. It's on the main island, and I can see why it would be convenient when you do quests there, but there are four or more other islands besides it. The SI:7 (or was it SI:6?) rogue NPCs that stealthily hide to ambush you on the starting island have a high chance of killing you.

2 The quest givers rush out of their way to attack those very agents when they appear at the top. It shouldn't matter to people who just click and accept the quests, but if you were planning on reading the edgy Kilrogg lore (and it was pretty interesting), you're going to struggle when he’ll rush away to slam his fist at the intruders.

3 The main island is very small. I can’t imagine it supporting twice the population doing it.

4 There was an issue with the ship where it phased out of reality like Borealis. Both mobs and players appeared and disappeared in front of my eyes, and I was told it was not a phasing issue.

5 I’m a druid, so swimming wasn’t much of an issue for me, but it's probably annoying for everyone else (maybe not a shaman). The quest that asks you to kill two elites under the water is horrible, underwater fighting isn't it.

6 At one point in the image attached, the bridge was sunk too low into the ground.

Balor was only bad because of all the swimming and that one path all the way south and back north. Easily fixable by making an NPC on the island and at the docks give you a swimming speed or water walking buff as well as adding a shortcut through the mountains. It was otherwise a pretty good zone.

Was playing through Westfall yesterday on Turtle and despite there being way more people playing it, than Epoch, there weren't any bottlenecks for quests, like Epoch had. The quest pickups on the ground spawned faster, so people weren't fighting for them as much, mobs needed for quests repopped at a decent speed and the escort npcs respawned faster and they fucking sprint so people don't get stuck waiting in a line, or have a bunch of assholes run up and snag the quest npc. These are all simple changes, why can't Epoch do them?

No. Grinding pvp gear kills world pvp except for the most pathetic dickless trannies who don't want to actually pvp, but instead stat check their opponents.
It's the most pathetic and worthless kind of "competitive" gameplay ever.

Which means, players dump world pvp after a while because they can't compete with pvp geared stat checking and they don't go to bgs because it's a gay trash mode and because everyone just stat checks them there.
This is exactly why pvp died in retail.

You make bgs and arenas playable by normalizing gear and stats for everyone (they remain shit modes, but they're at least playable).
And then if you raid and play the actual game, you can gear up over time and you can still power fantasy with epics in world pvp if you wish.
But at least the inherent asymmetry of pvp in world pvp means there are methods by which even T3.5 geared players can be taken down.
