Point is - we never had and will never have dota2 version of faker. The game nowadays is not even as competitive as it used to be. Faker's been in league since pretty much its inception and outlived many of its iterations, still competing at the highest level today while the game itself still draws attention of many good players around the world.
Dota is basically 3 CIS and 3 EU stacks, which is laughable considering how dominant China used to be just a bit over a decade ago. They were owning hard and there was also this constant back and forth between EU and NA as well.

Axe is big and red, so you know he's gonna run at you and fight you. Crystal Maiden is blue and small, so you know she's going to fight at range. What is Marci at a first glance? Well light clothes and backpack makes me think she's some dainty support, maybe she throws food or supplies around to heal or buff. Oh no, she's actually a wrestlemania fighter pugilist that lifesteals.

Muerta is horrendously designed.
Its baffling how bad they made Muerta specially when you look at any of the deadlock cast, which are almost all winners conceptually.
They askked some random californian what he knew about hispanics and called it, nobody would unironically think that a holiday themed hero is a good idea. Nobody, thats like making a Headless Horseman hero with a cartoonishly evil pumpkin head a a regular hero (I know there are hats like that for couple heroes, but those are cosmetics ,we are talking default looks and design concepts)
Specially when most of the deadlock designs are absolutely top tier.
It wouldn't be bad or that weird to have a hispanic gunsliger but the fact they had to theme it out of Dia de los muertos just fucking ruins it, you could remove that bit alone, add a non raspy witch voice and the hero would've been as popular as the other girls.

Support since everything you learn for the role translates over to core and you can focus on the actual game without have to worry about farming shit.
Mid is also good since its the most independent role and just forces you to git gud at the game fastest.

As for heroes, just make sure to pick a hero with a stun. Stuns are super important so learning how to use one effectively (and how to play around them) is central to developing a dota game mindset.

La Santa Muerte is a thing in mexican religion, but its literally just saint version of death, with a white robe instead of black.
Muerta is clearly inspired after dia de los muertos, specially with the flowers and the "ofrenda" thing which they removed. Dia de los muertos is literally a day where Mexican folk leave "orendas" (Offerings) to their dead.
That and because her outfit literally looks like a random instagram model doing a themed costume based of the holiday.
