KOF15 had only 2 big changes, iirc: 1 new mechanic (shatter strike) and 1 combo conversion change (Blowback with new counterhit state).

And Samsho7 only had 1 big change: Guard Crush being added.

Hopefully, we'll similarly see 1 big change to CotW each season.

But any changes won't address the game's biggest "criticisms": the game being boring, tedious; and characters all doing the same thing and all having the same gameplan.

It's kind of weird, I USED to like the DoA Mai, but I think that it was just because of a lack of options.
In hindsight her face suffers from DoA doll syndrome, and her body isn't as voluptuous as it should be. I will say though, her animations in DoA are still absolutely elite tier -- in a class of It's own.

Akiryo is the only 3D artist IMO to actually make the DoA Mai model work.

KoFXV Mai looks good enough in-game, but SF6 Mai is just all-around GOATed and I thank god that we got that crossover both for the new designs and the excellent 3D model that is how I've always imagined Mai to look all these years.

The game is unity so the process to rip the files is the same that was with KOFAS, the biggest issue is finding an emulator that can run the game. I was told that ldplayer does but I haven't tried it myself yet

Sure but my process was never through an emulator. I would go into the installed files and find the asset bundles, open them up with utinyripper or some other program, get the files out, sort through the statics and use a little makeshift utility based on Spine to see the 2D animations, and basically screen record them.

Problem is, I can't find the asset bundles in the installation now. In fact the game installation is only a bit over 200mb.

That said, maybe it is that light. Only some of the portraits are animated, and there's probably not that many pieces of music in the game.

There's these little pets and companions you can put in your team, and it's full of deep cuts I enjoy. Cool Guy, King's waitresses, Lin's Hisoku friends, the fat women, the cameramen, Athena's friend, etc. Amusingly a llama with Iori's hair.

There's a full body portrait for a guy labeled "Bread", I assume it's the "player character"

Barring Athena having a 98 and a Schoolgirl version, there seem to be no year-specific versions for anyone. No one from non-mainline KOFs either. Lily does appear in her Maximum Impact design as one of those companions, but she also had that design in a background in XIII.

Instead of low-tier versions of, like, Choi from 94, the bad gacha rolls now get you the generic enemies from KOFAS, who you can put in your team.
