There's next to no learning, aside of radial menu UI clusterfuck that's kinda painful I've cleared my menus out, webm related. beats trying to get the right focal length/aperture from radial thumbstick roll every day of the week. In most basic scenario, all you have to do is touch the screen to select focus point and take a picture. As for other stuff, if you know normal photography, you'll be right at home immediately, it operates on same basic principles. If you don't know normal photography, it shouldn't be too bothersome either, and you'll surely learn in no time.

The only downside is plus ten materials to the avatar (that only player can see, so it's not a real performance impact for people around), and performance impact on your GPU whenever you pull the camera out.

I too play a Female Avatar as an Objective Male, however I ensure my Female Avatar is as Androgynous as possible. Like no obvious male build or female build. Just an androgynous thing. I do not want to play Le Funny Creatures or Le Random Meme characters. I prefer to present myself in VR Chat as my authentic self, an asexual, silly androgynous being.

I've put together a babble i'm lying, i had it all the time, turns out babble uses exactly same setup as eyetrackvr and I've slapped together eyetrackvr for index ages ago, so all I had to do was to print a headset bracket. On the first attempt with a setup that's as far from optimal as it could possibly be, it couldn't even handle a basic smile properly, but it shows promise. So far, the only two aspects of my face it was able to recognize easily and reliably are puffed cheeks and tongue.

Regardless, got a feeling it might be moderately usable once I'll fiddle with camera position, illumination, and software setup.

I'm mixed about it. I think "rigid with a tension knob" is a better overall design than the elastic strap. I can adjust the tension to fairly tight when playing active games, and loosen it when I'm just reclining and watching stuff or devving and need to take the headset on and off quickly. you can't do that easily/quickly with the elastic strap (have to pull bits of it through the ring, put it on, then pull it back off and try again when you get the tension wrong, vs just rotating the knob). The built-in audio is also better than wrangling extra earbuds or headphones every time to put the headset on/off. I tried to improve the default strap + earbuds by printing https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6429677 to add a halo and cable routing, but it just wasn't convenient enough. I've never wanted to go back to it once I got the audio strap.

The main design downside is the arms for the actual speakers, which straddle an awkward ground between not off-ear enough to avoid touching your ears, but also too far from your ear for optimal audio (if you press the drivers manually to your ears, it sounds better, or least is louder/bassier, so "better"). . The >>537011093 cope is one way to solve this, but I don't like the extra bits you'd have to take on/off. I'd rather have mounting arms that hold the speakers fully away, or add some inward spring force to hold them on my ears tighter, but still be completely attached to the strap. I've never had the speakers get caught on my ears at least; they still pull on and off fine with minimal adjustment to realign them.

The asking price for essentially ksc75s with extra plastic is still annoying. If you have a 3d printer, you can almost certainly do better with some chink quest headstrap + adapters. But since I have the (mediocre but 80% there design-wise) audio strap already, I haven't bothered to try this path myself.

I disliked how the spaceship stuff is designed to be played seated but the rest of the game is designed to be played standing so it felt very awkward having to find my chair and sit down every time I got in a ship, or get up from my chair and move it out of my playspace whenever I got out of the ship.

It really is a shame. I love NMS and wish the VR portion of it had more time put into it because I'd play that more then VRC if they actually put work in making the controls and UI feel less just shitted out.

Saving to persistance works, all of your 3 decks can be saved to persistance so you don't have to paste them in every time. This also means that your decks are sync'd with other players in the map (I think)

but yeah having another thing to charge sucks and the battery life could be a concern depending on how long you're on VR for.

also latency if you're doing anything competitive. if you're not doing anything competitive and just talking in vrchat or something then latency isn't really an issue.
