That's why I say that the 5th Core member has to be Blaze.

It can't be Cream (Kid Amy/Girl Tails), and it can't be Rouge (Nega-Knuckles), it has to be Blaze, because Blaze is Nega-Sonic primarily.

Tails is linked to Sonic. Amy is linked to Sonic. Knuckles is linked to Sonic. And Blaze is also linked to Sonic.

The next step is actually building relationships between them without Sonic, but if they want "Girl #2" then Blaze is right there. Cream is for Team Rose and Rouge is for ... either Team Rose, Team Dark, or messing with Knuckles, and they extend the scope of the cast and franchise beyond just Sonic.

Sticks is another character built around Amy, like Cream is, so naturally she didn't really "click" as a core cast even in Sonic Boom, because she had no real connection to Sonic, or anybody that wasn't Amy.

No, that person used one line from Amy's theme out of context to insist that everything about how Amy is presented by Sonic Team is somehow wrong.

They insist that Amy wants to force Sonic to settle down, or that Amy wants the adventures to stop in general, when all evidence proves that false. Amy loves the adventure, and she doesn't wanna tie Sonic down. That wasn't her goal even back then. She wants to be part of Sonic's adventures, that was the whole point of her arc.

Like, geez. I don't know how they could have gone through those games and come to such a backwards conclusion, unless they actively just wanted to start discourse for no reason. Sage's inclusion softens Eggman's character to a detrimental degree.
A consistently of Eggman is he does not care about his allies. He surrounded himself with robots that have to follow his every command. He scrapped and repurposed Gamma's "brothers" because they couldn't find a frog. He was going to let Rouge die on Prison Island when she got trapped. Metal was pissed at Eggman and tried to overthrow him in Heroes. He constantly used foul play to control beings who were stronger than him (Chaos, Zeti, Dark Gaia). This gave him another nice contrast to Sonic, who makes friends by being a likeable dude.
Sage throws a wrench in this. Eggman cares about Sage for, honestly, no good reason. All she does is make fun of Sonic and keep him company during Frontiers, and that is apparently for Eggman to make her the exception. It doesn't help that nothing happens in Frontiers' omega low energy story. Seriously, almost every cutscene is two characters shooting the breeze in an open field. There are logs you can find about where Eggman talks more about Sage's development. But not only are those optional, it is still a weak justification for Eggman to reevaluate his viewpoint when you compared it to the years of him acting opposite. Eggman could barely tolerate himself as an ally in Generations. I personally think Eggman being a pure evil, self serving villain made him a better character. Sage is just "non-human character learns about humanity #5042" and she isn't even outstanding in that field. You could argue that this series has done the same character archetype but way better multiple times (Shadow, Gamma, Chip).

And Cream the Rabbit is "Girl Tails". That's what she is, fundamentally. She is the Girl Tails to Amy's Girl Sonic. Everything about Cream's personality is the female mirror of Tails, just as Amy is the female mirror of Sonic. Cream's dynamic with Amy reflects Tails' dynamic with Sonic, as well. It doesn't matter if you like Cream more than you like Amy, that doesn't change what either character fundamentally is.

The existence of Silver makes more sense if you think of it in this way. Basically, when they created Sonic, they struck lighting in a bottle. Everything about that from the design, aesthetics, how it ties into the gameplay, is pretty much perfect and thus became a big franchise. Within ten years they managed to create yet another character that's just as cool, just as marketable, and nearly as popular as Sonic himself with Shadow. It was like striking lighting in a bottle twice. After this they must have thought well if they could do it twice, they could do it a third time. Since Sonic is Gokuu, and Shadow is Vegeta, with basically the entire staff being fans of Dragon Ball then logically the next one must be based on the next coolest character Trunks. Managing to get another character on the level of Sonic and Shadow is difficult but like I said they must have thought it would be easier to work out since they already did it two times before. It did not help that 06 is his debut game. If that game turned out better than maybe it would have worked a bit better.

This series is ashamed of its true roots because of SoA influence post-06. It's why it got turned into Looney Tunes shit in the 2010s to pander to people who thought SatAM and AoStH were the legitimate Sonic in the games in the 90s.
