It's weird that Sonic Team tried a soft reboot the lore and pander to westies (Freedom Fighters, Egg Hitler, etc) and created IDW as a tie-in to Forces and hired Ian. It feels like we're moving past that and re-orienting back to Unleashed and Frontiers.

Archie had more acknowledgement in the games than IDW ever did.
Archie was included in Sonic Mega Collection. In both Japan and the US. With an entire readable issue of Sonic's early publication history.
IDW's classic comics are not in origins. Not even the free comic book day ones.
This shows how little SEGA cares about IDW.
They'll acknowledge Archie but not IDW.
SEGA takes pride in Archie, Senoue-sama even using it as his justification for working on Mega Man Songs instead of Sonic the Hedgehog Songs for Super Smash Brothers.
It begs the question of why SEGA is so ashamed of IDW. The so-called 'reference' to Whisper's board is extremely questionable and tenuous. It does nothing to introduce new audiences to the character. You'd have to be IDW-obsessed to even 'pick up on it' as a 'reference'.
Even X is acknowledged with Amy's swimsuit but no one expects characters from Sonic X to be in the game unless they're obsessed with shipping.

But SEGA has a legal paper trail proving they own everything in IDW. It's not that they're afraid of getting sued. They'll outright feature characters from the western produced and made Sonic Prime. It seems to me that Sonic Team does not enjoy IDW Sonic. They do not take joy in referencing it or including it. Even Naka-sama was comfortable acknowledging Archie Sonic the Hedgehog's existence. The fact IDW remains hidden and out of sight is something strange that we have not seen before in the history of this franchise. SEGA actively avoids IDW. They do not want to acknowledge it in the games.
It would be trivial to include comic issues in a celebration of Classic Sonic like Origins.

Blaze is just budget Sally, a cheap knock-off trying to fill the role of the "serious girl" foil. Why would you want the Japanese imitation when the real deal is right there? Sticks was another good American idea, a true wild card, but of course Ian Flynn had to get his grubby hands on her and ruin everything. The rest aren't even worth mentioning.

You need a proper "Nega Sonic," and that's Sally. Sonic is the rebellious American teen with that Clinton-era swagger. He needs an opposite, a motherly, knows-best authority figure to play against. That's peak character dynamic. Amy is "Girl Sonic," another rebel. Why would Sonic want to date himself?

You're praising the show that cemented Amy Rose as a psychotic, one-dimensional stalker whose only personality trait is "SONIKKU!" That's not Amy. Amy is "Girl Sonic." She's supposed to be the feminine equivalent of Sonic's 90s American rebellious spirit. She's a brash, tomboyish adventurer who wants to be a hero in her own right. She doesn't want to tie Sonic down and force him to settle into some Japanese fantasy of domestic life. She wants to be part of his adventures, to prove she's strong enough to stand by his side. That's the whole point. Sonic X strips all that away for cheap gags that turned her into a running joke.
And don't even get me started on Cream. In Sonic X, she's not a character, she's a prop. A polite, disciplined, "kawaii" plot device meant to make Amy look slightly more responsible by comparison. It's pathetic. Cream should be the "Tails to her Sonic," a younger kid who sees Amy's rebellious streak and wants to emulate it, learning to be a hero herself.
You people have been brainwashed by cheap foreign animation. You prefer the Japanese knock-off to the quality, American-made original. It's no wonder this country is in the state it's in. You should learn a thing or two about the value of domestic products instead of praising this imported garbage that bastardized Naoto Ohshima and the west's original vision. Knuckles as the Rival to Sonic IS specifically the Immovable Object to Sonic's Unstoppable Force. That's the entire point behind the rivalry. Behind Knuckles as a character. Where Sonic is flighty and aloof, Knuckles is strongly rooted with both feet on the ground.
