GG it lowest because the past several games have been GG related. GV is more likely because they've already stated they're interested and that the trilogy is prep for a reboot. It's also right around the time you'd expect an announcement (2-3 years between games). BMZ because there hasn't been a new game forever.

Eden is gung ho and heroic. Inferno is a stressed retelling of the first track. Savior has a slower, mysterious, anticipatory tone with a hint of wrongness that is reminiscent of MML2's Elysium. The ironic thing is that as you play through, you realize that the music is telling Eden's story more so than GV or Copen's, which is in contrast to Firmament's soundtrack, which is mostly telling GV's tale. GV3's final level music was the worst. Sounded like a cheap rip-off of Shantae, and didn't even have various tracks for its final zones like the other games.

Design and gameplay? Definitely Sunrise Palace. Best levels, best bosses, and so on, followed by GV2. Each game has been an improvement on the last.

Hype? I think GV1 takes it. Charging Sumeragi's fortified island through the front gates by yourself and destroying Sumeragi's most elite forces, riding up the space elevator as you fight resurrected bosses, and then fighting Nova high above the planet is pure hype. GV1 has the most coolest concept for the final stage. GV2 is last here, but GV2 isn't really about hype. Belladen is depressing. It's supposed to feel messed up. Eden needs to be stopped, but it's tragic that it's come to this.

Babel (and Eridu leading up to it) has that good old fashioned action movie plot in its favor. Nova is GV's perfect foil and the enemy he has the most personal beef with. Despite Gunvolt's power, you feel like you're fighting against all odds which culminates in you scaling a traditional final boss tower. I want to like Sunrise Palace but the lack of narrative weight behind it thanks to GV3's half-baked story will always make it come in last place to me. It's just a sandcastle that some asshole Saudi prince erected to glorify himself, and it's still in Japan.

Babel ends with Elise getting hate crime'd so it's shit by default.

I don't really like GV2's final level being so on-the-nose as a classic final Mega Man level, down to the boss portals. In terms of gameplay, it's objectively the weakest. You do the boss rematches and Zonda is just literally waiting in the next room.

Eden shouldn't be evil, many of them don't come off as bad kids, yet here they are, trying to wipe out humanity because everything is so fucked.

Unless you're REALLY looking for it, or you're a hardcore Gunvolt enthusiast, then you won't have problems with the GV translation. It mostly comes down to how some characters are conveyed in dialogue. It's not like there's an entirely different game hidden behind the localization though, some characters like Zonda just comes off a bit more ambiguous, but the intention pretty much remains the same. So yeah, most of it is nitpicking. For example, you could argue that translating Roro's "Acura-kun" into "Boss" loses an intimate and personal touch, because that's what Mytyl used to call him. And with Mytyl being Roro's primary speaking partner when the she was developing her artificial intelligence, it would be a phrase she would pick up from Mytyl. But then a phrase like "you got it, boss" is also equally as endearing between friends and partners.

Partially, but their backstories are less interesting, and they're missing a lot of the pity elements that the most popular villainess characters have. Villainess characters that people go wild over are the ones that people want to "fix." This is why Isola and Stella weren't as popular. Stella was in a bad situation, but she was still one of the elites of Sumeragi's new world and she didn't have the absolute shit life that the adepts from the first two games had. I think the GV3 villainess designs also don't stack up next to Elise/Gibril/Zonda/Isola/Stella. Finally, Kirin ends up overshadowing all the other females in her game. She's the first heroine who actually has an interesting concept and interactions with the cast. The popularity of the villainesses from the first games correlated with how boring Joule and Quinn's interactions were.

I like Quinn because she was clearly added mostly to contrast Joule and the female adepts. While there is a bit of unrequited love interest, most of her dialogue is meant to reflect upon Joule (hence why every conversation with Quinn always ends with a spike in Joule's feelings of some kind). She is everything Joule is no longer, she does everything Joule can't do, looking at Quinn makes Joule think of her old self. Which makes Joule jealous, mean, resentful, and deeply conflicted since she knows Quinn is doing nothing wrong. Of course, Quinn is Joule in the way Joule used to be, wishing she could be there for GV in battle fighting alongside him. She is a way to explore what dying and fusing with GV really means for Joule's life or lack there of. So when we finally get to the ending of this game where Joule fuses with Mytly and is reborn as a new flesh and blood being and no memories of GV, it's more a happy ending for her than a sad one. She is no longer chained to GV physically or mentally, she's finally left her cocoon (GV) and been born as the butterfly to fly free as she was always meant to.

As a character by herself, Quinn is weak and boring, but as an extension of Joule's characterization and story she is great.

I think that's the stickler. They also said they don't like killing off characters after GV2. My guess is that they fired their load after the second game, because the characters in the first two games have tons of backstories that all interconnect, are interwoven into the setting, and have common themes and motifs popping up throughout. For the first two games, it feels like they started with the story and characters, then made the game, rather than making the game and crafting the scenario to tie it all together.

Playing these games back to back, and Sumeragi still feels more evil. Only Gibril's stage gets close to being as fucked up as the drug labs, data center, or stratocombs, or Merak drowning his own soldiers. Hell, some of the Eden members like Milas even tell their men to pull back because they shouldn't throw their lives away against Gunvolt. I think it's how the narrative covers them. I know that Eden is worse, that they do kill more people, but a lot of their violence is implied, and they have more noble traits, like the soldiers sacrificing themselves to protect the noncombatants from GV. For Sumeragi, you see the evil, GV comments on it, and they're pretty scummy throughout with Nova maybe being okay, but only in the side CDs.

What I was saying is how it feels. I know logically Eden is worse, but they feel like okay dudes pushed to the breaking point. They're more sympathetic than the corpos who just want to mindcontrol/conquer the world. Though they're wrong, being in a world of Copen's and seeing the carnage against adepts would radicalize most of us. The design language of their characters isn't evil either, especially compared to Sumeragi or the Gravekeepers (who aren't really evil, but the point remains). The personality of the characters is also more likable than a lot of the Sumeragi guys.
