the worst part about hearthstone is that if blizzard put any sort of effort and money in it it would be the best digital tcg by a massive margin, hell it almost pretty much is while in maint mode

The entire appeal of quest paladin is that any single retard can play it to full effectiveness with 0 thought required, which is saying something in a game like Hearthstone. For me my favourite is being on a winning spot vs it but oh woopsie they generated a THIRD Grunty so they got to refill the board a third time that's very unlucky.

Honestly it's one of the reasons why the climb is so fucking shit. I can't even play any goofy decks before getting to Legend because lol quest paladin 80% of your games.

If your deck is a deck that gets to turn 8 or 9 regularly you can beat murloc paladin but the matchup entirely depends on what random murlocs he generates. Most decks can deal with one or two Grunty drops but the third one might just break you. Or if Grunty generates very high value murlocs like the muscle one or tyrannogill.

Wrong. Cheating out a singular one early is annoying but can be beaten even if they're getting procs with the wrench. The problem is cube, location, and potion make it too easy to copy them, plus or minus the variance on the potion hitting rez and what else is in the rez pool which is also cancer but a different problem, and then that resulting in extra copies which then work with Umbra, and two of those three greed tools can also be leveraged to generate turtles vs aggro which is the natural predator of dumb combo decks.

so many of the decks in the brawl are so garbage, I can't tell it's either because the hero powers are so strong that they have to intentionally create slow as fuck decks or if it was sheer incompetence. even the best decks are just weird, myra for instance should be a fairly standard death rattle rogue deck but it just has so little going for it at times, russel is just fucking nothing and hoping your hero power can make the early game strong, sephira is fucking useless regardless of your opponent casting spells, mr chu is way too slow to do anything, meanwhile vex gets the strongest hero power of them all and gets a fairly normal deck that an utilize it.

Arena meta sucks, currently mage and dk are the only viable picks (priest does fine too)

Dk does deathrattle reborn fuckery and plays that extremely op 7 mana deathrattle card, they also somehow always have that legendary that permanently buffs all their minions attack and they always draw it early.

Mage discovers a million spells with the location and then tranforms them into random ones.

Unless you roll either of the above, that's 300 gold in the trash. Honestly feels more stale than standard, fuck this.

As somebody who unfortunately has a horrible gambling problem and is ONLY limited by my lack of money...yeah, this Darkmoon Faire thing worked on me. I haven't spent a dime on this game in years, but today, I caved and fucked up.

I regret it. Massively. I spent an insane amount on a god damn purple bunny to sit int he corner of my screen and make faces at me, and I can't get that money back. That blunder is no one's fault but my own, I know.

It reels you in with all the hits. Your first pull is free, so it gets you hooked. The next pull is cheap. Maybe you'll get something good. The one after that is more expensive but not THAT much more. Each time you think "I'll do one more. If I don't get something good I'll just stop". But you don't. Because it's designed to make stopping feel bad.

Just the other day, I didn't pay for a game that was on sale because I thought $50 felt too expensive. Today, I spent TWO HUNDRED dollars on this stupid rabbit. And not just that, but it 'proudly' DISPLAYS the bunny to people I play against, only making the self-imposed humiliation worse.

I am not trying to say that this is anyone's fault but my own, but I am also using it as an opportunity to draw attention to just how predatory and psychologically targeted this kind of thing is. It's also not just 'whales' being targeted, though that is of course their main cash flow. They KNOW this stuff digs to the core of people's addictive tendencies, and they know that means people who may not pay for some things directly (I likely wouldn't have, say, paid a flat cost for this rabbit) WILL pay an insane amount for it if it's a gamble and they feel like they 'won'.

I feel ashamed, and I feel defeated. I spent what could've been a half dozen video games, a bunch of decent meals, some nice clothes, all sorts of other things, on something that sits in the corner of my screen and reminds me, MOCKS me, about how much I wasted on it. Arena prepatch had three problems:
1. it was stale with the same card pool being played for like half a year
2. it had plenty of unfun shit that really should have no place in arena
3. it was very high power level with games generally decided around who could create the biggest swing turn (whether this is a problem depends somewhat on what you personally want arena to be).
Of note is that one thing it did pretty well was balance. Yeah sure, mage and hunter were a little too strong, shaman and especially paladin were a little too weak, but overall every class was like between 53 and 47 overall winrate - not too terrible.
What people wanted from the patch:
1. a general shakeup of the meta to stop things from being stale. new cards so people see new things.
2. a more active role from blizzard when it comes to curation to prevent certain super cancer archetypes from existing and in particular more attention to the balance of the legendary buckets (something that in theory should be incredibly easy, it should be super for blizzard to look at the pick and winrate of these buckets and then... adjust them? duh??? since they come with a set of cards, it should be a lot easier to get buckets in line than it is to balance individual cards: kinda weak legendary? give it strong support cards. kinda busted legendary? give it weaker support, etc.)
3. a lower power level (if that is something you cared about)

Now, what did we get?
1. no curation whatsoever. just a bunch of card sets
2. the worst arena balance in years. mage reigns supreme with dk and hunter not too far behind and every other class significantly below 50% and classes like warlock, rogue or druid hovering at <40%.
3. the power level was lowered, but turns out for some this is a case of "be careful what you wish for". I personally like it, but a natural development of trying to reduce big swings in matches is that those matches become more snowball-y.

Normal card games would either:

A: Ban problematic cards

or

B: Release anti-meta cards that can negate the OP cards.

it's impossible for any deck to be more do nothing than quest warrior
either remove time warp or make it so the rewards are only time warp. like it's such a fucking stupid coinflippy deck because the moment it gets to T10 you have to assume that any point he can just get 2 turns in a row and kill you off nowhere or even worse topdeck it. or make it so latorvius shuffles all rewards instead of giving you two randomly. it's one of the stupidest decks in the whole game because of how unreliable that shit is and how wild the reward quality difference is
