The game will obviously be kept alive, the EOS thing is a joke but I think it's a sad thing, the game could do much better in revenue but currently we are losing to games like Tears of Thermis or PGR.
Without improving the early game the game won't be attractive to new players, and they seem to try to attract them from time to time(Sparkle being the last try).

To bring old players I don't think it's that difficult to be honest. Make a short animation with Kiana dying/sacrificing herself to save Rice Cake & the Earth. Make it sad enough and lots of players will come back just for the curiosity of "what happened?"

I won't talk about our peak time wich was in part 1 but even in part 1.5(I'm talking just about the CN mobile side which has the biggest revenue), the lowest revenue was 2866(i believe it was Sirin patch), while the biggest was 6766(Seele).
Since entering part 2, the biggest revenue was just the beginning, 4945 for Senadina's patch, from then on it went falling and falling. We fell so hard that from a certain point getting lower revenue than 2000w became the norm.
Right now, this last month we only got 1097W, the lowest in years. Sure Coralie's patch in CN started on July 24 but even July's revenue was one of the lowest banners in years alongside Helia's banner.
The game is falling but the devs are clearly doing nothing to try to improve the game to make new players come or bring back old players. Sure they might do a collab and bring a popular character to bring new players but the game at the beginning is not captivating at all.
Now the next patch will bring back some Elysia braindead fans and people who want the artbook or Kiana's skin or Seele's DK, but that will be for that patch, do you think they'll stay for the next patch? They'll just uninstall the game again.

Part 2 was always going to fall off. The game was old even during the end of Part 1, which was in decline ever since the ER tourists exploded. The majority of people who were still around post ER were people invested in Kiana and the story as a whole, which essentially concluded with the Finale, it's a completely normal process for games. Just look at WoW post WotLK or FFXIV after it finished it's major story.
The only real exception I can think of is FGO, but FGO is a unique combination of Autism and Stockholm Syndrome which I doubt could be replicated.

The game itself starts pretty slow like the other anon mentioned and the old battlesuits/units are really dated, but the game is pretty easy.
After a few chapters the game gives you trial characters to use so there's no need to roll gacha or grind any upgrade materials to enjoy the story.

It depends on style and size of parts. If I recall right, parts of FFBE's story in part 2 are seen as better than part 1 and many part 2 character are just as known if not more, constantly showing up in ads and events even after part 2. And they're way below in sales. FEH is a weird ongoing story where there's many story arcs but not really a single overarching story arc. Not sure where to count Girls Frontline but Polarized Light is arguably still the biggest event though it's currently reaching the end of its main story because it doesn't conclude everything. It's comparable to HoD arc or even Kolosten in that it's major for the characters but not the end of the overall struggle even if the current biggest villains are being replaced.

Elysia's sacrifice fundamentally undermines the central themes of the beauty of humanity and how it must struggle with and overcome destiny with compassion and love. The difference between the PE and CE, as identified by Fu Hua when she first faced off against Kevin after Arc City, used to be how they defended humanity from the Honkai. The PE operated on cold ruthless logic as the herrschers were exterminated, while the CE seemed to operate more warmly and emotional. The former exterminated the herrschers and the latter gave them a real chance to become human again. Part of the beauty of each Herrscher's story was that (some of) the cast tried to let each herrscher reclaim their humanity. The PE was supposed to be a counterpoint to this by denying the herrschers their humanity.

Elysia's sacrifice means that not only was the PE civilization CORRECT to exterminate the herrschers but they COULDN'T HAVE TRIED TO REHABILITATE THEM EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO. Now, the PE herrschers are NOT HUMAN and NEVER COULD BE HUMAN. Not only this, but the struggle each CE herrscher went through for their identity and against the Honkai's corruption now means less since ego is apparently a gift from Elysia rather than something earned. It just tells you Elysia saved everyone so hard that absolutely nothing the present cast fought for could've ever happened if it weren't for her. All their sacrifice and pain is meaningless unless Elysia saves everything.

This all boils down to a common theme. It's all about Elysia to the point the effort and suffering of the rest of the cast aren't worth shit. Nobody overcame a trial because of their efforts or their friends, because Elysia was the only end reason their efforts didn't fail. It wasn't hard work, it wasn't talent, it wasn't being some chosen one or anything to do with the individual, it's because of Elysia that the individual had any chance whatsoever because they couldn't do it without her. And that's an oddly fitting summary of everything wrong with Elysia's character. She's written like a giant attention black hole sucking up everything. Even the whole point about her sacrifice is moot if she reappears or has characters always based on her constantly. She's never been "dead" per say. They writers aren't letting her step out of the spotlight even when it's another character's turn.
