I wonder if people would accept a modern non splitscreen mainline game where every playable character (3 to 4, not the huge number 19 pulled) needs to clear the game in order to build on what happens. With each character route playing slightly differently, potentially with a different boss order except the 6th, and referencing the other clears. As a means to have everyone involved have relevant proper contributions.
Or is every stage and boss being the same something that's too integral for a non splitscreen to mix up.

I think this would be very cool but the scope would quickly get out of hand, even if one was to use recurring characters. Not to mention that the more routes there are, the more it takes away from the existing ones. Think of IN for example; I think it's a miracle that both Eirin and Kaguya are equally remembered. Now imagine if there were 4 different routes, let alone doing that today without the attention that the first windows games got.
I don't think it would simply work and be worth it for ZUN. Also it would suck getting through all stories without getting spoiled, you'd have to either be really good at danmaku or just avoid the internet for a while.

While the idea was mainly to find a way to not just, invalidate non Reimu/Marisa contributions, it's probably something that would benefit the most as a Reimu/Marisa game to limit the complexities involved.

I don't get the appeal from a lore-adjacent angle (not that most 2hu ships make sense lore wise, but I mean taking lore bits and expanding them through oneself headcanon). I guess it boils down to Autistic Maid Sakuya x Girlfailure Meiling look cute next to each other especially when the girlfailure tops the autistic girl (since most depictions have Meiling topping). Even when the autistic girl is of a higher profile and an ace at her job. I've also seen some interpretations outside shipping about Meiling secretly being one of the strongest touhous so I wonder if the artist shippers lowkey feel that when having Meiling top.

The point is that each different game you play improves your skills in a different way and helps you get better overall. Changing games every couple months or so is the best way to keep the improvements coming.
On the other hand, playing a single game forever while never having played any others limits your skillset. I do agree that focusing on one game when you're going for a lunatic is the quickest way to get a lunatic 1cc, but only once you're able to clear games on hard, not when you're struggling to even get past the third spellcard of an extra boss. Building a solid skillset 'before' starting to focus on a game and attempting to clear it on lunatic is the fastest way to get it.

Anon is also getting triggered way too hard by me saying "years". I said it would take the guy several months, "if not years", which only means there's a possibility (unlikely but possible) he'll get bored and start practicing less and less, extending the process by a lot.

That makes sense if we're talking about switching between different genres of games (fighting, racing, etc), but when it comes to the touhou mainline games every game plays almost the same way and simply asks you to dodge different stuff in different ways. That's the important thing, some games focus more on macrododging, some on micrododging, some on streaming, and so on, and playing different ones helps you gain a wider perspective on the others.
This is all from my own personal experience and your mileage may vary, of course.

I thought that at first but it's kind of a beginner trap. With a focused shot you can clear a lot of Flans spellcards much faster before they can become a major problem whereas with homing you have to endure spellcards for that bit longer which opens the door for more mistakes. The advantages that homing provides in the extra are quite limited honestly. It will take time to acclimate to as well of course, it's not some kind of instant win but it was definitely more suited for the extra.

Thanks but I dont think its the hardest 1cc on earth. LoLK is very generous with lives if you can play clean. The big difference with Ikaruga is that it's beyond stingy with resources if you're not mastering the scoring system and it doesn't have a bomb or equivalent. Technically speaking, I believe it's all scripted patterns so I can see why great players might downplay the difficulty if they're so used to it all.

I used Reimu A. Homing shot type has been my favorite in every touhou game it's been in. It generally makes quick work of popcorn enemies and helps keep the number of bullets on the screen down to a manageable level.

I suggest you try a few practice runs on which you don't bomb at all and try to dodge stuff to the best of your capability (feel free to use continues). This will train your skills at dodging in hairy situations. Then, once you feel ready enough, you try a few runs in which you bomb all of the sections which gave you the most trouble.

Oh, I actually didn't mean you should use practice mode, at least not until you can clear the game with just one continue and only if you find a specific section which is giving you trouble. Practicing the whole game is always better as it trains your stamina and gets you more and more used to the entire run.

Once you're mostly ready, unless there really is a whole stage giving you trouble, you could grab thprac which lets you practice specific spellcards and non-spells without having to do everything else again and again just to get a few seconds on the part you actually want to practice.
I've had to do that with sakuya's spells to figure them out, and with remi's second spell to avoid having to bomb it so much. You'll need it much less on the future games, I only remember using it again on MoF to figure out one of suwako's spellcards.
