What better choice is there? Every ryzeal monster can summon itself out of the hand for costs that are basically "if it's any day of the week" and they all add or summon another one. Chances are if you try to negate one of them another one will pop out of the hand and the game will continue as if you never did anything in the first place.
At least with duo drive there's no equivalent for the search 2. If it gets negated that has a meaningful effect.

I mean, think of it this way: there are some types of decks that it actually doesn't work all that well against, but the vast majority of archetypes that have been added to the game in the past decade will get stuck against a Monarch deck in full swing.

Realistically with standard builds they don't, but more realistically they will stop it from coming out 50% of the time by going first, and will stop it from coming out going second by using hand traps often enough to not make it worth playing.
If you're playing Sharks or something already then it's not bad as an option to pivot into.

If we're including niche but decent options that nobody is playing, then Ryzeal can pierce with Agnumday and Maliss can make Goddess. When Eclipse Twins releases more people will run Ourobouros who threatens to shut down an Exodia wincon.
Also Number 104 Masquerade also threatens to mill Exodia or just win if deckout is your only gameplan.

You have your normal summon, and Fossil Dig to brick on having too many normal summons. Using cards like Trap Trick, Wannabee, and one(1) Pot of Duality is not a replacement for the sort of consistency you get from having actual combos.
Try actually playing the deck for more than a couple games. You will have games where your only engine card is Domain. You will have games where you have to banish your only Dinomorphia trap in the GY with a destroyed Diplos to have a chance at mounting a comeback, only to have the opponent whip out a Fiendsmith card in their Centurion deck to burn you for game. You will have games where you have many normal Dinomorphia traps in the GY and no counter traos, or vice versa when what you need is the opposite.

Probably not much of a surprise but that deck's too old to just modify a bit and find success with. If you really really really want to use the Assault mode stuff, then Psi-reflector is good. He adds Assault Beast then summons it from the GY after it discards itself so you can make a synchro. And Assault Sentinel also can get you to Reflector.
But I wouldn't suggest doing that since it's not very good these days and isn't enough to build a deck around.

If you want a modern deck that's similar to the psychic half then the P.U.N.K. cards have a bunch of psychics that pay LP then make synchros and are pretty good. But aesthetically they're very different.

If you're willing to wait half a year then there will be retrains for a lot of the old psychic cards that will release and you can make a deck around.

First craft the cards that appear in 3 packs, then 2 packs, then later (i.e. months later, so not relevant for new player) you can start crafting for the "Packs with no good SR to craft". Here's a tip, make a copy of the sheet ctrl+a -> format -> conditional format. Create filters for every pack you have opened to keep track of what you've crafted so far: See pic related.
