So after hearing anons shitting on it for years, I finally started watching tri. Only gotten through 2 episodes so far, and while I don't think it's THAT bad, it has a lot of problems. I know 02 is a bit controversial, but completely shutting out the 02 kids is just plain petty, and I find some of the characterization of the 01 kids (namely Taichi and Jo) questionable. Plot is pretty slow, but the filler sections in movie 2 are leagues better than the first one's. The first movie in general was rather meh, but I liked 2, and it looks like they'll finally address the 02 cast in 3, so that's nice. I'm guessing that I haven't hit the really bad films yet, but I'll find out one way or another.

I have a softer spot than most for Tri since it was what brought me back to Digimon back in 2017. But even I won't offer any defense for it; most if not all of its ideas were poorly executed, and some of those ideas were terrible in and of themselves (woah, ANOTHER chosen child and ANOTHER corrupted Digimon?).
And despite the intention of these movies to be a reunion with the 1999 cast, the time we do spend with them seemed a little wasted in retrospect. I'd say it peaks with Jou and Mimi in movie 2, since there's barely any plot to 'get in the way' of their personal conflicts.

Personally, I had no issue with how neglected the 02 kids were, since I always thought of 02 as a tacked-on sequel that's best left ignored. That said, Tri did such a terrible job writing them out of the story that the only way they could have made it worse was by simply retconning 02 out of existence.
