Here's how this works:
>4 month long tournament, spanning from the 7th of September to the 18th of January (20 rounds), with the Top 4 Finals taking place on the 25th of January
>you can join at any point in time during the duration of the tournament, just message me on Challonge and I will add you
>a single round will be held each weekend
>we will be using a very basic leaderboard system, as Challonge doesn't really support something like this too well
>BO3 matches, match wins and byes net you 2 points, match losses net you 1 point and no shows give you nothing
>2 no shows in a row will result in a disqualification
>matchups will be randomized each week, as allowing new players to join all the time messes with any automated round systems
>send in lists each week via Challonge dms or via e-mail to dngcup@proton.me
>you are allowed to change decks between rounds
>we will be using the most recent TCG banlist and the PRERELEASE card pool
>300 second turn timers, no reason for a time limit on rounds as it's only 1 round per week
>report scores via Challonge DMs, as the Leaderboard format on Challonge does not allow participants to input their own scores

Questions? Anything you think should be different?

Someone suggested announcing the matchups a week prior to every round so that the participants can agree on the time of the duel which was a good idea but I'm not sure how to pull that off without needlessly complicating things so I'll just stick to a fixed time for now.

Yeah WCQs are region locked so China and Singapore only got to send 1 representative each in the paper portion.
Also there's a reason the only OCG player that made it to the Top 8 of the paper portion wasn't Japanese, he was the only Singapore player.

Yes, you must perform costs exactly as written. OSS's cost is to send 1 other face-up card you control TO THE GY. Pendulums have an inherent substitution rule that causes them to go to the face-up Extra Deck instead of the GY, which the card recognizes and therefore doesn't let you use it as cost

Another aspect is simply how Yugioh is designed. Archetypal design being the default causes the situation where if you don't care for the archetypes featured, you simply will not purchase the product.

To give another example of a similar game, Cardfight Vanguard basically features archetypes and falls into the same issues as Yugioh where archetypes slowly fall off until supported once more.
But CFV is also set up so there are overarching Nations and each Nation gets generic support per set.
