in poe2 build making is a lot less complicated since there's no life and way fewer defensive layers on the tree so it's basically just increased damage and whatever major defense your build uses, in PoE1 getting the balance between offense and defense right plus dealing with all the additional mechanics and defensive layers and then also considering stuff like cluster jewels makes making a build from the ground up way harder.

in poe2 you can just click increased damage nodes, critical stuff if you're building crit, and energy shield and you'll be good.

Is anyone experiencing some crazy performance drops after about 30mins of play? I can't tell it it's due to porting to town, alt tabbing or just time. I'm personally running 117%, which is honestly just okay. Ideally it would be close to 150%, which is the softcap. Anything below 100% is pretty much enteral poverty tier.

Basically your goal is to get your character strong enough to run t15s comfortably, then you scale back damage in favor of increased rarity (to get more cash to afford a better build to eventually move into juiced content). One of the easiest and cheapest things you can do is get 2 rings with 40%+ rarity on each of them and then some resistances, damage would also be nice but can get expensive quickly. Then you get the ingenuity belt with like 25% increased effect for both right slots. That combo alone will give you over 100% rarity.

if you actually want to use normal, not obviously high fantasy magic melee attacks and hit shit up close, unironically the only option is going Thorns. You can use a spear and Rapid Assault enemies to dump your thorns stacks, Barbs got buffed to 6x stacks per hit now so you can melt bosses if they hit you (but you NEED crown of the pale king and against effects that dont count as a Hit you'll do zero damage)

That's because it has a conditional, the tooltip doesn't know if you will be sacrificing Energy Shield to satisfy it's condition and grant you damage.
On the flip side, when you take Necromantic Conduit and check the tooltip, you are likely not on low mana and thus have Unholy Might which is why it increases your tooltip.

Res is a meme stat in the campaign you should never prio, it's welcome to have but not mandatory to cap like in POE1. Prioritize damage, then defensive stats like ES/evasion.
Pure ES chars with no evasion in the campaign need to have a big ES pool, convalescence when under attack, and crowd control. The game is much easier if you just have a lot of evasion, but as a caster you probably won't.

Angelic set items are literally lvl 12 in Diablo 2 yet some builds use at least part of its set bonuses even in endgame. GGG fucking HATE uniques and go out of their way to nerf low level ones any time they're actually good. Just this patch, Splinter of Loratta got nerfed by adding "DEAL NO ELEMENTAL DAMAGE" to it as a giant middle finger to people actually using an interesting low level unique as a build enabler in endgame.

Nothing you do in PoE2 matters until you get to maps, and even then you have no incentive to slowly work your way through every tier of maps (unlike in poe1, where you fill out the Atlas by running every map at least once), so there's ANOTHER layer of "nothing here matters" where you ignore t1 to t14 maps to just get to t15s ASAP because GGG make them 100x as rewarding as anything else and 1000x as rewarding as the campaign.

This is a little more true now that they added tiered currency, but it's not entirely true. Over the course of the poo2 campaign you collect shit like artificers, armour scraps and basic currency which you'll use throughout the game. Gear you find in the poe2 campaign can be used until mid-mapping (especially when it comes to rings or amulet or jewels). It takes far longer to replace POO2 campaign gear than POO1 campaign gear.

I'd prefer to just not do it if I barely have to engage with it. The thing with the POE1 campaign is that it is not feasible to make it fun, best way GGG can do for POE1 campaigning is to give us an unlockable skip button. It can't realistically be made good because it would require a rebalance of the whole game for a part that's 0.1% of everyone's playtime per league. GGG doesn't really recognize the problem as unsolvable either, because as long as people aren't all quitting the game in the campaign, it's functional enough for them.
But for POE2 that's not the case as much. The way they made various support gems available much earlier in the campaign than in 0.2 and 0.2 was already a big improvement to my enjoyment of it, and running through familiar content but with a new league mechanic felt much better now that there was a less cringe league mechanic than wisps. I think it has potential to be better (at least for players who don't hate POE2 wholesale).
