Tav is just some random dude. If the nautiloid tentacle had grabbed the person next to him on the street, the story would be about them instead.

Now, Durge is the special chosen of Bhaal born from his own blood who kicked off the entire game's plotline. But Tav absolutely fits the bill for random nobody with nothing special.

I was going to say Fallout 4, you're a random prewar soldier, but then I remembered that Dogmeat is a supernatural immortal being that did choose you and kicks off the plot as part of his ongoing duty to solve the various problems of the wastelands, so it doesn't count since I guess technically you're a "chosen one" by the gods. But I would argue the New Vegas does count as having a random nobody protagonist. You're just a courier who helped build The Divide, your skillset is...carrying stuff.

Off the top of my head, Solasta protagonists are just a band of adventurers, Outer Worlds you're just an average colonist from earth and you're only special because everyone else around you has degenerated kind of like in Idiocracy, in Kingmaker you're just an adventurer and the game would play the same if Amiri or Tartuccio or someone else became the defacto leader of the party and was thus crowned, and while most Elder Scrolls protagonists are indeed chosen ones the exception is Oblivion in which Martin is the chosen one with the special bloodline and you're just his chaperone (although this gets messier because you actually were chosen by fate to be his chaperone so we can go around in circles but you get what I mean, you're not the important one this time).

Because even just looking at the story companions it seems that there's so much overlap between most classes and archetypes that the game would have been better of with ~10 rather than ~50. Fighter, barbarian, mpnk and paladin still feel pretty different to me even if they hit the opponent hard.
Shit like Eccelsitheurge, Feyspeaker Shaman Spirits and Oracle curses allowing you to assemble spell lists that are not normally possible for standard progression is interesting in itself.

Plus, quite a few archetypes are pretty much about taking the few 'standard classes' if you will and mixing up their features, which can lead to a pretty unique flavor.

And that is without even touching multiclassing(not just 1 level dip), prestige and mythic combos.

Are all archetypes distinct enough experiences? No.
Are almost all classes ? Yes.
Are there at least a couple archetyeps per class that have enough changes or make a mix with another class to further distinguish themselves? Yes.

Quite a few elements that would make these classes and archetypes feel more unique are lost in a combat-only essentially game on pretty much always flat terrain, but there is still enough juice there.

The archetypes (mostly) shouldn't be seen as distinct classes, rather just some flavored "add a plus here, a minus there" type variation on the parent class.
Even further, some of the classes themselves work this way, Bloodrager, Warpriest, ... It depends on your perspective, but that's broadly how I see it. I think just counting up all the sub-classes is disingenuous.

Anyhow, for me the variety isn't just in MC class or what to do with the companions, but complete level 0 respec. I also limit everyone to 25 point buy and try to stay somewhat within their wheelhouse.
I'm finally too weary of the main quest (after 3+ playthroughs, that's not a slight on the game) to play again but I'm also unwilling to play garbage "roguelike" DLC.

In ME2 he has some more depth but compared to other companions he has almost zero conversations.
