NORTHERNLIGHT is lowkey one of the best tracks in the entire game. The vibe of walking into that empty room is so fucking haunting.
I know most people seem to believe the entity talking to you in the pitch black rooms is ERAM, but on my playthrough i believed it was December, which made the whole sequence that much more unsettling and uncomfortable.

What is Glass? Not what does it do, or its lore.
What is its meaning? What does it symbolize?
The fallen star that wept, and whose tears birthed glass...is maybe Gaster, who is also Toby fox.
(In my interpretation Gaster is a fallen angel(so, Lucifer, which leads to the devil and 666 motifs he has): one from the higher world of truth and the light, fallen into the world of fiction and darkness. Literally fallen into his creation. Fallen into Creation.
Toby fox RPs as gaster and Gaster is a reflection of him and a costume he sometimes puts on.

So, Toby fox the game and world developer is "crying" rivers of tears. From the tears comes Glass.
Is the game itself the rivers of tears (water = darkness = fiction) (and maybe "rivers" (as opposed to lakes or still water) specifically implies linearity, forward motion the prophecy ("rivers" being plural could be a gesture at there being multiple routes. (Note that comes to mind: rivers merge, not split(... the routes split, but in time they will probably merge and hit the same ending), and they all lead to the ocean. The same unavoidable ending, that we care so much about.)

The game is made from emotions felt by Toby Fox and yes I'm sure crying is involved by I feel uneasy wondering about that. I think the crying should be seen as something the Gaster character specifically is doing.
Intuitive idea: Does he cry because he can't get back home (to Heaven)? (Motif of "LOST", like Dess is, who is in a related game-code type situation, seemingly. (Also minor unconnected note: watch out for anything relating to the LOST mechanic for when you defeat enemies with violence. This will definitely be relevant to understanding Dess stuff.))

Idea: a darkner, a fiction-thing, turns to stone when overwhelmed by darkness, which is fiction-ness.
So, with too much fiction, they are forced to become unliving objects again, statues.
So, when a Titan spawns, which is a "too much darkness" event, it is immediately overfictioned and its fountain becomes a statue of a fountain.
