I can't imagine being naive enough to uncritically accept every excuse Haruki makes for his lecherous behavior. Any reader who actually accepts the idea that Kazusa is his "one true love" is operating on the same level of reading comprehension as the people who characterize Lolita as a love story. I'm begging you simpletons, please, just try reading against the grain for once in your lives.

White Album 2 is clearly intended to be a story about how the grass is always greener on the other side. The same story could just as easily have been told with King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn taking the place of Haruki and Kazusa, and Setsuna the spurned Catherine of Aragorn. To imagine that Haruki could ever find lasting happiness in the arms of an adultress is to blind oneself to the historical reality that Anne Boleyn met her end at the executioner's axe, only to be followed by a procession of future wives that could only entertain the despot's whims for so long. So too will Kazusa inevitably be replaced by a younger, more exciting plaything once Haruki's love for her dims to embers.

Perhaps the reader, seeing himself in Haruki and wishing for that passionate flame of new love for Kazusa to be real, should examine what character flaws he may share with the tyrants of yore. These are the sins of pride, greed, lust, and gluttony, and thus it should be clear that siding with Kazusa is quite literally siding with the devil.

After finishing KnS 3 I can confidently say Masaki x Yukari is a shit ship.
Probably why they didn't actually go through with it, just baited it the entire story.
I feel like they just couldn't think of a way to work [spoilerFuyumi and Michiru into the plot despite being... his fiancée and daughter already.
Definitely the weakest of the trilogy... by a lot. The only impact I felt from it was how much it hurt to see post-timeskip Reiji living without Yukari babysitting him.

I'll summarize my thoughts on this since I could write multiple large posts about this subject. I think the game and anime are complimentary to each other and each one is better in certain ways or certain moments. The game has this kind of somber, melancholy feel to it a lot of the time that I don't think the anime fully captures. Also the anime's depiction of Tomoya's and Nagisa's relationship is worse. In the game it starts very early and so a lot of things occur in a different context since they're already dating. The anime doesn't show their first kiss, or when they first have sex, or any number of other romantic moments that are in the game. That being said, there are parts of the story (particularly near the end) that I think the anime honestly did better. Also in the game you get to see all the routes with the romance properly included, e.g. Kotomi (hell in the game you can actually date Fuko, lol). There are other differences with the game: the ending is handled differently, the anime whitewashes Tomoya somewhat and makes him come off as a better person, etc. If you liked the anime I'd definitely recommend reading the game, but I'd also recommend anyone who liked the game to watch the anime.

Not all creators make "good media" until they're old, sometimes they're the right person at the right moment with the right idea.
A creator can be ahead of their time but at the same time never grow past that ceiling, which means that years later they become "outdated", unable of creating media that has the same impact as before, the generations change, the young consumers and what they like change.

An obvious example is something like Hajime no Ippo, it was a great manga back in the day, but it never stopped being made since 1989, it has 140+ volumes now, it became a dinosaur only for boomers, young anime fans aren't going to take that seriously, it doesn't resonate with them.

I think Jun Maeda regressed. Kanon -> Air -> Clannad is a clear progression in his writing. Kanon is a high school nakige, Air moves forward from that into topics like parenthood, and Clannad combines both and advances them into something really special. Little Busters backtracks closer to Kanon but does so in an impressive way so it's forgivable. But after that I don't know. Maybe he just said everything he wanted to say, or he got tired of trying to write something "meaningful". I don't think he, or Key, is going to make anything on that level again. But that being said, no one else could even make something like Clannad to begin with, so even though I'm complaining it's coming from a perspective of being deeply moved by his past writing.

As much as I like the Clannad anime I don't think it replaces the VN (I think you should watch/read both). But saying the Air anime can replace the game is ridiculous. The anime is too compressed. It was Key's second VN but it was the first adaptation by KyoAni so it only got 13 episodes IIRC which is simply not enough. If I were to actually pick one where you could watch the anime only I'd say Kanon since it works well in the format they chose for adapting it and it got a long enough adaptation to work properly.

The moment another guy - his friend and a certified stand-up guy even - tried to make a move on Setsuna he acted like a shithead despite actively trying everything he could to avoid her. Throughout the entirety of college Haruki never once stopped loving Setsuna at all, and it only took years because both Haruki and Setsuna were romantically hurt and retarded. He could only be able to start moving on after being truly rejected by her, which only first happened in the mandatory hotel event, and in Setsuna CC route he tanked that shit and confessed to her again after like a week
