in terms of allowing ggg to buff or nerf specific skills, theres no difference between effectiveness of added flat damage and base damage. the point about ice nova is also true if flat damage exists but a spell has such low effectiveness that it will always be worse than a different spell with the same amount of added flat damage, just like base damage
what it does is segregate spellcasters into different archetypes, together with some other mechanics. phys spells are scaled with levels because gain phys as extra exists. elemental spells are scaled with flat, either eblade or archmage.
dont misunderstand, its good that added flat spell damage exists, just not for the reasons that post suggests

so basically what i've realized about this game are a couple of core things
- they want to heavily encourage class archetypes; the witch summons zombies, the monk uses quarterstaffs, the warrior uses slams, etc
- the skill tree emphasizes this by making it entirely restrictive AND shitty as fuck, you could remove 75% of nodes on the tree because nobody will take those over the ones that are actually good and in range of their starting class
- support gems have become entirely superfluous just like in poe1; all interesting interactions like devastate + armour explosion or stomping ground + rake are instantly nerfed the next patch, leaving us with generic damage shit

this leads me to the only logical conclusion and nuclear level takes:
- they need to just get rid of the passive tree in poe2
- classes need to be locked into their own weapon types and skills, possibly branching with ascendances

it is so shitty to open the passive tree in poe2 and choose between "10% chance to gain 2 life on kill" and "minions gain 1% of damage as extra chaos every 5 seconds" or some shit
the poe2 devs have shown that they really fucking hate the core essence of poe1 which is the skill tree and gem system
so just get rid of it
the game would be better off for it instead of this half assed delivery
they also might as well just copy diablo/epoch/lost ark and have passive trees for their skills which could alter the gameplay drastically, and ascendancies might also drastically alter gameplay, like new weapons and skills or class gauges and stuff

that's where i'm at with this dogshit game, if they want the game to be that different from poe1 then they need to commit
but they won't because they're cowards and know this game won't live without the nostalgia of poe1

welp, I've gotten to t15s, beaten them with corruption and irradiation, beaten all the anomaly bosses, beaten a few shitadels, don't give a flying fuck about arbiter. abyss was fun and I liked the density. My secret homebrew turned out to be a huge success with great clear and single target, albeit somewhat slow because I was just using 30 movespeed boots with no speed nodes on the tree. I thought about making some gg 60 movespeed boots but couldn't be bothered buying and crafting and corrupting my own 2 sock exceptional bases. see you in 4 months for 0.4, poesissies.

Have you noticed how items have different stat requirements? The higher the stat requirements, the better the base stats are. Why would you ever use an item with base evasion of 100 when items with 300 base evasion are dropping? With the same modifiers, the 300 evasion armor is much better.

Why is there like no build variety in POE2?
I feel like there needs to be 5x as many skill gems and probably just as many more support gems to matter
also skill gems should be "melee" "ranged" and "spells" and you should be able to slot any melee skill into any melee weapon, same for ranged skill/weapons and spells
that said i'm halfway through act 2 and my poison ranger build is starting to come together nicely after not having played for months and trying monk and witch before that

they should've never moved from socketing your skills into your gear, even with the PoE 2 change. It really hinders unique design that they can't do "socketed gems have X"
